Hi All,

For whatever perverse marketing reasons, VW (at least here in Australia, not sure about other markets) offers the Tiguan in 3 trim levels all with front assist and city emergency brake.
Not too sure how this is done across the rest of the model range yet.
Therefor they are equipped with an A5 camera module and 13 auto distance radar as well as the appropriate ABS module.

However ACC is part of an additional package known as the Driver Assistance Package that also includes side assist.
So whilst all the requisite hardware is there for ACC, it cannot be enabled by simply coding the modules correctly.
VW have chosen to lock the feature using Feature Enable Codes, and will not offer to enable ACC as a SoftWare as A Product upgrade.

Thankfully Don Wang from this forum has been able to assist me.

Yesterday we activated ACC on 2 Tiguans, one a Comfortline TSI and another an RLine TDI.

What is required in order to perform the retrofit is a brand new ("virgin") Canbus gateway module and front radar module.
In our case we used the exact same ADR part number, but used a newer 5Q0 gateway in place of his original 3Q0 gateway.
You can't just add the FEC to the existing factory modules.
Also need to replace the steering wheel button set with the new ACC version.

Don is then able to add the brand new modules one at a time using that VW online software which shall not be mentioned, clear CP and perform the coding required.
Perform G85 and 13 ADR calibrations and away you go.

Thank you Don!!! :)

Here is an autoscan of the Rline after ACC has been activated and everything is calibrated and working:

Thank you very much for sharing these experiences.

Why did you upgrade to a 5Q0 Gateway? What was the necessity?
Shouldn't it be enough to replace the very restricted front assist radar module?
I'm just curous, these are not rhetorical questions ;)

As I understand it, the only way to get the ACC FEC to be added to the canbus gateway is by introducing a brand new module.
Then when you replace the distance radar module and restore FEC to it there is some comparison with the gateway's installed FEC and ACC is allowed to be activated.

So the replacements have to follow a special order? FEC stuff is quite new to me.

Yes they do otherwise the whole procedure will result in programmed modules that have the same fec as from factory.

So first replace gateway (with removal of the component protection...), then radar module?
Could you explain the phrase "restore FEC to it"? Is this a step to be performed manually somehow?

I have retrofitted ACC to our MQB Leon and it did not require new CAN gateway. What it needs a certain type of ACC radar module to which the bootloader can be flashed on the bench. It needs CP removal through official way after that, but no need to replace the gateway.
The round front MRR or LRR radars should be fine, the flat front are not. Those have no modifiable bootloader section.

That's interesting about the round radar.
Tig uses the square radar.

Don, would you be able to share more details about this approach? I thought it is impossible to trick FEC/SWAP protection just using ODIS? Would love to retrofit ACC into the SE of my wife, it already has the correct radar 2Q0907572M used for the emergency assist.

^ Only way is to install the older type round faced radar. I gave false information on my previous post that it would need a bootloader. It doesn't. The round faced radar does not have SWaP/FeC scheme yet. It only has component protection which is easily removed by the dealer.

You cannot trick or fool the factory connection to enable ACC to your car in any way if it does not have it.

How did you do the calibration? I have read that for calibration of this sensor no need to have VAS tools.

I had it calibrated by authorized workshop. No problems there.

The calibration could basically be done as DIY using laser pointer and target practice paper :) There’s a mirror on one edge of the radar to which you point the laser and then try to adjust the radar so that the reflected beam hits bullseye on the target paper. Tricky but doable. Workshop calibrates ACC in about one hour.

Thanks for your reply. Reading the original post from @kamold I am not sure if I want to believe that you cant use the original square radar and make it work. I doubt its possible with ODIS but if someone can do it, its DV52 and the explanation "how" was somewhat logical.

For my Ford business for example, I was always able to change the VIN in den BCM and cluster (both masters to identify the car) to a car which had lane keep assist. Once this was done, I used IDS (Ford diagnostics) to install new software on ECM which allowed me to activate the calibration mode for the lane keep assist which I retrofitted there.

In general Ford will tell you its impossible to retrofit, as you cant do the calibration but I found a way doing it with the factory tools - same hope that Don found a way :thanks:

^ Believe what you want, this is not a matter of belief nor it's a matter of coding. You need to have proper authorization codes to your gateway and the only way to do that is through factory connection. Factory will deny the code activation if your car never had ACC. Plain and simple.

Lane assist in VW does not need any form of activation. It's fully retrofittable item and can be calibrated by yourself (if you make a proper calibration board) or by dealer, just like original. ACC is a different animal. That requires feature enable codes to be activated to your gateway, and that you cannot do with coding. ODIS and authorized GEKO connection is the only way and that does not work if you don't have it from the factory. Even you get a gateway from another car that has ACC, as soon as you put it to your car and VIN changes, bang, codes are disabled.
Lane assist camera has similar "safety" feature. It will lose it's calibration as soon as you put it to another car with another VIN.

This page very clearly explains the process and what is needed for that : http://mqb.pl/en/adaptive-cruise-control-retrofit-acc-on-mqb/. Only thing I'm not agreeing here is the no need for calibration statement. ACC always needs a calibration if you remove the radar, even it wouldn't complain about it. The small adjustments on the radar end have big impact on radar's "visibility" in the front. Wrongly adjusted will take false readings from ground, cars on next lane or even opposite traffic in worst cases.
This is one of the reasons why VAG is making the ACC retrofit nearly impossible. People don't care. They install these safety related features to their cars and then leave them as is without taking the process fully to the end. The save is max 200 € if you leave the ACC radar uncalibrated but the cost could be much higher in the end if you end up rearing someone or in worst case, someone is killed because you did not want to spend 200 € for professional calibration.

You can buy the flat faced radar but only thing you'll gain from that is expensive paper weight. Nothing else. Don cannot help you with this one, trust me.

I've done it. Twice.
I can't say I understand it because I was sent the parts from Don Wang (not DV52, some very famous Dons here lol) and he performed the necessary online work.

I know this. But apparently he's not doing it anymore as he has not responded to people trying to contact him.

I heard from another source that VW is aware of what the Chinese are doing and they are pulling the plug from them. Meaning they are introducing counter measures which makes their work impossible.

Don't know what's the truth.

I've not been able to contact him now for a few months. I hope he's OK.
I'm sure that VW is working with their component suppliers to always try and move another step ahead of anyone operating outside of their official channels.
Whilst understandable it does make what was a fun hobby of retrofitting into a much more difficult and frustrating (if not impossible in some cases) undertaking.

Ahh that makes sense, so its not DV52 and it was not done in the car directly with ODIS only. That was all I wondered about, so I assume its not possible as known BUT maybe with some 3rd party tools as some offer hacked 5Fs to retrofit navigation as well.

Well, I will wait and hope that some 3rd party solution pops up and I still have 10 month paid subscription to ODIS, even it doesnt seem to help in this instance :/

Thanks all!

We have waited 5 year for a 3rd party tool solution and not had any yet. So loooong wait ahead.

5F is different as it’s self contained. All the Feature codes are in the MIB unit itself. Only check against gateway is component protection. ACC will do challenge against gateway and if they don’t match boom, ACC disconnects.
Even our clever Russian friends have not been able to hack this and they hack everything.

I suggest you do some heavy reading on this subject and you’ll understand there’s no solution coming.
