'04 Touareg, new key?

Any chance I can use VCDS to "marry" a new key to our '04 Touareg?

It's done everything else I've asked of it.

Long story short, someone busted the left rear passenger window yesterday and stole a binder which had a key, not for the VW but for our volvo. It brought to light that we have only one key for each car (story of my life).

At this very moment there is what looks to be a brand new Touareg key on eBay. It is a blank blade but previously used "fob" (dying to know where that word came from). The ad states that you'd need the key to be reprogrammed.

First off, is the dude huffing paint? Can a previously used key be re-purposed?

Second, can VCDS be used to initiate a key to my ECU?

If the above two questions are "no joy" then what should I expect to be reamed for at a stealership?

It can providing you know the Secret Key Code (SKC) but you will need to use VAG-TACHO for that.

Doesn't T'Reg also need preprogrammed chip before it can introduced to car?

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think a 2004 (first generation Touareg) needs a pre-coded key. However, one absolutely would need the vehicle-specific security (PIN) code, which VCDS cannot provide.

People generally do not have the best of luck with keys purchased on fleaBay.

I know this is an old thread, but I am in the same position as the owner of the thread (Flaps10). I have gone over the key-matching procedure for the Touareg 7L over and over and over.

What I have:

1) 2004 V6 Touareg with only one key.
2) Genuine Hex-Usb + Can Interface
3) The SKC for the T1
4) Second key ordered & cut from the dealer (not programmed)

What I need:

1) To programme the new key (both the remote and the immo.)

My questions:

1) Is it going to be as easy as I have read?
2) Has anyone done it successfully or are there hiccups in the process, or anything to look out for?
3) If I don't have a battery charger (as recommended in the procedure), would it be risky/how risky would it be to do it on battery power only?

If you have the correct PIN/SKC, it should be doable, but it's rather fidgety. Does the Touareg in question have a full-up Kessy system? An Auto-Scan would tell us that.

Please get a battery charger.

The KESSY architecture, in fact many of the same KESSY P/Ns, are shared with Phaetons. I've done it. It's not hard, I don't remember any major hiccups.

In fact, I need to do it again at some point. My 2006 Phaeton will be in the garage anyway this weekend for its biannual B-check and attack on certain persistent DTCs, and I only had 3 of my 4 keys with me last time I reconfigured my Immobilizer. If you can wait a few days, I'll capture the process on video.

Still working on getting this for you. I actually went through the process successfully last night, but I goofed up the video capture. I'll try it again sometime in the next couple days.
