Hi,

Is there anyone here who can tell me how to set the remote window open/close on my 2000 New Beetle?

If I hold the key in the door lock in either direction, the windows open/close accordingly.

How do I use VCDS to set this so that I can open or close the windows in this way by holding down the buttons on the remote?

DJ

Hi
From memory you cannot use VCDS to program this as your convenience module requires flashing.
Alternatively there was a third party device you could purchase to hardwire in that enabled this to function.

That is an amazing find. At the park approaching the car with 3 kids, its been standing in the sun for 2 hours and even touching the seats or door pillars can burn the babies' sensitive skin. I need this! $49.99 is nothing compared to the relief that this will give me!
I plan on ordering asap! I wonder why VCDS does not allow programming this? Uwe? any ideas?

Because on that module, it cannot be done via the normal diagnostic API functions. Instead, it requires direct changes to EEPROM locations. Trouble is if you get that wrong, you've got a bricked module, and I'd much rather people bricked their control modules with someone else's product. ;)

Here is praying that I don't brick it. Which module do I have?

It's your convenience module. VCDS does not flash Eeproms, but is the most easiest cable to use.

You have an Mk.4 generation Central Convenience Module. There are many variants of it.

Kinda difficult to know that without seeing an Auto-Scan from your car. ;)

(Yes, Santos probably did one, but he's in Vegas at a trade show this week).

He didn't keep the scan though. I have done several, but I would have to work out a way to get them from the computer with VCDS to this computer, perhaps locate them on the drive and save to a USB or something.
I replaced my drivers door lock actuator with a generic part, and top of every scan is "central locking not properly equipped - driver's door".
VW are devious.

If you've done Auto-Scans, there will be archival copies of them in the Scans sub-folder.

where would I post the scan for you? And is the convenience module upgrade-able to a newer one with more functions?

You'd post it here -- as shown in the link in post #11 of this thread. :)

I don't think there's anything to be gained in terms of functionality by upgrading your CCM. The entire Mk4 generation of cars (which includes your New Beetle) use very similar modules with rather a rather limited feature-set due to the late 1990s deign tech, and updating to Mk.5 or newer stuff really isn't practical because the internal protocols that the various modules use to talk to each other are not compatible.

To think that this time last month I knew nothing about the car whatsoever.
Locking my keys inside and ending up with an immobilizer problem has led to me learning that the VW computer system is complex, and has parts like the cluster, convenience module, and ECU.
I learned that the ordinary person can repair things on the car themselves leading to me changing the drivers door actuator, the temperature sensor, the fan controller, the air filter, pollen filter, installing new speakers, and modifying the way that the spare wheel is fastened into the trunk.
I always believed that you had to have special mechanical skills/knowledge to do car repairs. Much of it is common sense. And most of the principles are the same as when making repairs and modifications to the home (something that I am very good at).
I certainly had no idea that the computer could be manipulated to change the features that the car came with as standard! I always believed that what it left the factory with was what you got and lived with it like that.
I have changed things so that my doors unlock when I remove the ignition key. I certainly intend to change things so that I can remote open/close my windows.
I wish that I could retro fit a rain sensor - but given the limitations of the convenience module, I doubt that this would be possible!
I like to leave my windows open during the summer if the car is in my driveway.
Being able to close them without leaving all the babies alone, or having to take them all outside with me will be a godsend!

I did a new scan because I got a check engine light today after all the posting!

OK I hope that I did this right, if anyone can throw some light on my newly surfaced check engine light and the P1582 code - that would help me!
I had an idle adaptation issue and changed the plugs, and it went away. This one has a different code, and I am deeply suspicious that the throttle body is dirty.
I don't know if VCDS can do a throttle body alignment on a drive by wire throttle, so if anyone knows the answer to that - that would also help me!

I am still stumped on how key#3 is causing a remote control error code, when I have cleared all remotes on channel 00 and re set the two that I have, yet the code regenerates.

That would be my first guess too. Been here?

Yes, of course it can. See here.

That is rather baffling.

Anyway, your Central Convenience module is: 1J0-959-799-AJ/05X

I thought drive by wire was the cable driven one. Mine has a cable operation, its not electronic. I can feel the cable, but the throttle body is located under the wiper bulkhead close to the firewall. I have no idea how to get it out to clean it.
How do I check the fuel pressure and fuel injectors?
How would I identify if I have an idle stabilization valve?
My engine is AEG longblock type.

why do my electric mirrors say that they are not working? They do work.
The baby put my keys in his mouth and the saliva stopped the remote unlock working, but the remote lock was fine. When it dried out everything worked fine. I find it amusing that the car actually stated it received an implausible remote signal.
Interestingly enough the old battered remote went through this several hundred times and never had issues, even when dropped in a water fountain. The batteries inside it were changed only recently after 17 years of use.
The newer remote that Santos programed seems to be more susceptible to trauma.

Yeah, the Beetle is a PITA to work on.

How do I check the fuel pressure and fuel injectors?
Fuel pressure with a pressure gauge. There should be a test port on the end of your fuel rail somewhere. Fuel injectors would get pulled to test them. This stuff is described in a repair manual.

How would I identify if I have an idle stabilization valve?
I'm confident you do not; your throttle body handles that chore.

why do my electric mirrors say that they are not working? They do work.
Those fault codes are for the mirror heaters. They always burned out on that vintage of cars, in part because they were always on, i.e. there was no provision to turn them off.
