Exchanging SW and HW Parts?

The phone control module on my 2012 Bentley Continental GT apparently failed and needs to be replaced. When I pulled the VAGCOM fault codes this is what I got:

What's the difference between the SW (software?) part number and the HW (hardware?) part number? When I looked up the SW part I got a control module from a latest generation Phaeton costing about $900, but when I went to Bentley they wanted $4700 for what I'm guessing is the HW part. Does anyone have any idea if the SW part and the HW part would be interchangeable? I know Volkswagen/Audi/Bentley share a lot of parts and I'd rather not pay $4700 for something that should cost no more than $900...

The hardware part number represents what the module is physically made of. The software part number is indicative of what software is installed on that hardware.

My guess is a Phaeton module would probably work.

My question is: Have you eliminated all potential external causes for the "Insufficient Voltage" fault?

I think I've eliminated all the potential external causes for "Insufficient Voltage" other than physically checking the connectors on the module. I've tried it hooked up to a known good battery as well as on a charger and still no luck. Moreover I haven't seen the fault come up again.

Thanks for the input on the part. I'm trying to decide if the possibility of saving $3700 is worth the risk of potentially having to pay an extra $1500 for the extra part and labor if it doesn't work.

I would definitely check the connectors on the module, as well as the voltage supply lines to it, and the relevant grounds.

If the fault codes hasn't come back, what other problems/symptoms does this module exhibit that leads you to think it needs to be replaced?

Just ran another test and the fault is back, so it's back in the picture. Also some new low voltage related faults came up suggesting to me that it is a battery or connectors issue. I'm really beginning to doubt the Bentley dealership's diagnosis of failed part, especially considering the other electronic anomalies that seem to be coming up.
