Why VW don't use coding in BCM anymore?

I noticed that newer BCM's like in new Kodiaq, Touran and other new MQB platform doesn't use coding anymore. It's pretty weird to me, because it was very convinient in case of retrofitting or configuring behaviour of car systems.

I looks like the whole configuration is done now by adapt channels only, but I don't find it very user-friendly, is that new strategy of VW to make our lifes more interesting??

Maybe someone have some info about why new control modules are designed that way?

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.
