In that case, I'm pretty sure it would have had to go to the dealer to get Component Protection matched to the car. If that wasn't necessary, it's hacked.

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Enable diagnostics for next 10 bootups.
Then you will see the unit in VCDS once it starts.

    not exactly
Depend of unit , after CP remove via ODIS you might lost all activations (BT, Satnav etc) . And most of the time VW will not enable it , because you car not have it

CP and SWaP are seperate functions. As far as my experience goes, the removal/deactivation of SWaP functions only happens if the dealer does more than just deactivate CP. SWaP functions are tight to a car/VIN and not the device, so the deactivation in a car which isn't "authorized" to have them is just logical. From a consumers point of view that's obviously not so cool, yet if we're truly honest - they didn't pay for it in the first place. Sort of like buying a used computer, which has Windows and Office installed on it. Sure, you can buy it, yet that doesn't make you a legal owner of a Windows or Office license.

On my example , bought MIB Gen 1 for Golf 7 with all futures , guy told me - just remove CP in a dealer , dont do any adaptation / matches , all working, proper VIN , I did myself coding and adaption , working over a year now
GEN2 can not be do like that any longer
also all MIB units for PQ platform - this same, after CP remove is just a radio, nothing available.

If you get your hands on an ODIS session log from such a case, I would bet my tushy that there is actually more than just CP happening. The only other thing I can think of, the unit looses all SWaP activations once CP is active.

i can confirm same with MIB1 a friend just did CP remove and kept all swap codes and correct VIN, but PQ loses all same with MIB2. Since 5-6 months dealer refuses all CP removal for used parts
