I picked up a used 2006 Audi A3 for my daughter which has the original keys. Both keys start the car and unlock the doors. The remotes do not work.
Easy fix, I replaced the batteries. No joy...

I read about the manual procedure to program with one key in the ignition, doing the other, tried that and it didn't work.

Then I tried VCDS following the same procedure here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdakPlMnDr4
After clearing the remotes (group 000), setting group 001 to 2, I can click on the unlock button of each remote and the turn signals flash.
Yay, it worked right? No. Neither remote will work.

I've tried the procedure with key in the ignition, key out of the ignition (once the VCDS is done) and always within the 15 sec limit.

What am I missing here? Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the VCDS forum .........please post an auto-scan & so someone can help you.

Try erasing all fobs and start over after a battery reboot.

Please note:
I have the navi unit out of the car as well as the drivers side door panel (unrelated work) which are the cause of the errors above.
I've tried the same procedure before, when the panel and navi were in place.
There are no faults with the central convenience module.
Yes, this is a licensed VCDS, I'm a former reseller as well :)

It seems like you have the correct procedure.

What happens if you try to only match one remote? Try each remote, but only matching one.

Thanks for the reply. As I said above, already tried that.

After clearing the remotes (group 000), setting group 001 to 2, I can click on the unlock button of each remote and the turn signals flash.

So the procedure is correct. The remotes are functional (turn signals flash when pairing them). But they don't work.
Trust me, I'm as stumped as you are, and was hoping for something like "Oh, on the 2006 you have to have the gas flap open too". :banghead:

Trust me, I'm as stumped as you are, and was hoping for something like "Oh, on the 2006 you have to have the gas flap open too". :banghead:
Well it seems correct. ;)

My son now has my old 2006. I'll try to verify either later this evening when I'm home or tomorrow morning.

It seems like you have the correct procedure.

What happens if you try to only match one remote? Try each remote, but only matching one.

I like the theory. Since you have to pair the set, if you are asking for two and one doesn't work, perhaps neither will work.
Unfortunately, I tried each key individually just now, first clearing the remotes (group 0 to 0 and save) then group 1 to 1. No joy.

It looks like your remotes antennas are damage , so it will need need new remote.
MK5 Jetta /Golf will do same thing, it will do same thing.

On A3 is little difficult since A3 has one piece key , can not be separate like Jetta/Golf .
In reality you will have to replace whole key and do programing of immobilizer and remote. But if you handy , you can open key and replace only remote board.

I suggest hunt for good used A3 Key with same part number and try adopt remote to car. If it works , then you can swap just remote board in your car.

I buy that. However, when programming the key, it flashes the lights. Why does the antenna work well enough to program but not to lock/unlock? It should be the same signal.

Yeah I was thinking of finding another remote to use as a test anyway. Thanks.

My son and I just checked in his 2006 A3.

Verified both remotes working fine, both functionally and in MVB 010 (key number, and each button).

Went to 46 -> Adaption, Group 0, [Read] -> [Save], exit module, turned off ignition. Verified car did not respond to either remote.

Turned ignition back on, 46 -> Adaption, Group 0, made New Value 2, [Read] -> [Save]. Pressed unlock button on one remote for a bit, waited for flash, waited another second or so. Pressed unlock button on other remote for a bit, waited for flash, waited another second or so. Exited module, turn off ignition, verified both remotes working again.

Not sure what else to say. Doors, hatch, and fuel flap were all closed while we did this. ;)

Uwe, thanks for the extra effort. I'll report back if/when I figure out a solution.

If antennas are a concern........

You can take any compatible unmarried remote and verify if it is broadcasting anything in VCDS advance measuring blocks and should be your first step before trying the process again.

Are the LED lights flashing on the remote when you press a button.........is the battery possibly in upside down?

Have you tried the reboot process after clearing defaults to the controller after a battery reset and then seeing that the value was saved as cleared zero?

Sometimes in needs to be done a couple of times because the controller won't erase the key count.
I strongly encourage recoding the controller with an alternate WSC and then also trying again.

No, as I said when I pair the remotes the turn signals flash. Battery is in right, remote lights up.

I did notice that after setting group 0 to 000, the number of remotes still shows as 1 after saving. Tell me more about this reboot process?

I'm not sure how to do that. Is it via adaptation? Feel free to point me to a doc or wiki page.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

0x46-10-00 save clear all defaults.
0x46-10-001 change to zero and save.
0x46-07- code with same data but configure your tester in config of VCDS for tester # Importer ID and WSC & with anything other than zero!

Let me know when you get a field of zero in 0x46-10-001 and then let's proceed after we know the remotes are cleared & the new WSC is displayed in main screen of 0x46......

Thanks.

I have no idea WHY, but they do that. I had at least 10 cars with same problem, and after adopt other remote , it worked perfect.

Nope it's because the new data isn't saved yet & it was never cleared.........if you default the module & clear the data all is usually well after a fresh eeprom value.

I agree with Marin, you can have a faulty or incorrect remote that confirms (lights flash) but will not actually learn and work. If the OP hasn't tried a new remote I would do so next. If this is the key type where the remote is all in one with the key ... that will complicate things due to the Immo system.

Jack ,
I am not talking just because I want to be popular on Forums.

I am talking form my experience , and even happen on my own car exactly same thing what OP experiencing now. After adopting other good used remote all start working. Then I went back and adopt my old remote and it did not work, and it flash hazards when I save it in VCDS.
