Hi All

Apologies if this has already been asked before. I've just changed my 2016 Octavia vRS TSI DSG for a 2015 Golf R DSG 5dr.
What annoyed / annoys me about both cars is the gear recommendation whilst in manual mode, does anyone know any way of disabling this?

I'm not a novice and have had a look through the instruments and the gateway but cant seem to see anything.

Phil: I loaded all the admaps on my mk7 into a MS-access database and search for the term "gear". As you have discovered, the only half reasonable result was IDE06753-MAS06285-Efficiency program display-Live tip use gearshift position D

But - then I had a "squizz" (Aussie venacular) at the all dancing, all new - yellow long coding screens and this caught my attention (I have the same Gateway as you):

Bit 1 looks tantalising - I think! I didn't even have to consult Mr Google to figure out what the descriptor means in English.

Anyhow- I have absolutely no experience with this software-switch, but it might be worth considering

Hi Don,

For some reason I don't get the option to use the new yellow coding screens when I access my gateway - I am on the latest 17.6.0 beta.
However mine shows up the coding options, I have already tried bit 0 but sadly it made no difference to the gear recommendation :-(


There are 2 bits checked in the auto trans module
I am led to believe that byte 1 bit 2 is showing the current gear in normal mode (D1, D2, D3 etc.), perhaps bit 4 is an option?

Phil: Bummer - but as I said, it was a long shot from the outset.

As for your statement "I am led to believe that byte 1 bit 2 is showing the current gear in normal mode (D1, D2, D3 etc.)", I don't think so. My mk7 has the gear number displayed and my code string is 0014. Accepted wisdom from the plethora of discussions about this matter in many forums is that in these modules, the gear display facility is in the module firmware (it's not something that can be accessed with VCDS- alas) Clearly in later incarnations of the module, the gear number facility has been brought-out as a software switch in the code-string, so the tweak with Byte1, Bit 2 is only for those modules @ address hex02 that have the have 19 x Bytes in the code-string.

Also, re: "For some reason I don't get the option to use the new yellow coding screens when I access my gateway". I suspect that the issue here is your VCDS product type. I tried accessing the now-famous "yellow" screens with my HEX + CAN cable with the same result as you (I also have a HEX-NET, it's definitely my go-to cable now, so consider upgrading - you won't be disappointed). I asked why and with his usual kind manner, Uwe reminded me that at this stage, the "yellow" screens were only accessible with the HEX series devices. So I'm guessing that this was the cause of your inability to access the new facility - I think

Current-generation HEX-NET and HEX-V2 devices.

Xpower has a HEX+CAN that's about 5 years old...
