Folks,

I havent seen anything like this before. Car AC blows warm air. Freon level good. In AUTO mode when temp setting is on "Lo" the interior air blower goes to maximum speed but no air comes out of the vents. I hear the air sound rushing inside/seem recirculating in dashboard until I press the ECON button then air suddenly rush out of the vents but no cooling. In ECON mode, I see on VCDS that current supply to N280 cuts off. In AUTO mode, current is supplied to N280 regulating valve about 0.635A.
I have done the air flaps basic initialization settings two times but nothing changed. What could cause the air not flowing through the vents when in AUTO Mode? What does the shut off stages set in MVB 2 mean?? Help appreciated!

I'm just wondering if anybody has input on this of some form. Even when I push the center air vents button, still no air comes out from vents..air seem recirculating in dashboard/AC housing. Econ button when pressed cuts off supply to N280 valve which I think it is normal as seen in the diagnosis.current to compressor N280 is restored when econ is deactivated. Can this fault 00735 - Potentiometer in Positioning Motor for Air recirculation Flap (G143)
09-00 - Adaptation Limit Surpassed prevent the air flow through the vents?
I truly need some help in this complex matter..

1 = Compressor OFF: Refrigerant Pressure too high (> 32 bar)
12 = Compressor OFF: Shut-Off requested by Engine Control
http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?633-Tis%92-the-HVAC-Season

So my first question, are we 100% sure the correct amount of charge is in the system? No codes in the engine, so not sure why it was requesting a shut down.

Carry out an Output Test to ensure the actuators are driving the flaps. It is not unheard of for the actuator arms to snap, therefore not driving the flaps but still work their feedback potentiometer and therefore not trigger any codes.

A Code 1 shut-off may arise if the condenser is blocked with flies, leaves and othe debris; or if the radiator fans are blocked.

The shut down request was a result of ECON button activated at the time of autoscan. Today I recharged freon (level was low) and turned on AC with auto button. I could tell the AC cools. Low side pipe feels cold and "sweaty'' but no air flows from the AC vents in dashboard, though the blower motors works. I can feel the air recirculating inside the dashboard/AC housing but the cold air doesnt flow out of any of the vents! But soon as I activate/press the ECON button, this time air flows through the vents .(of course ECON button turns off AC cooling). Very puzzling. What could cause the AC cooled air not to flow out of air vents? On previous scan the fault code 00735 and 00716 - Air recirculation Flap Positioning Motor (V113)
41-00 - Blocked or No Voltage was recorded. Could these possibly block air flow through the vents when AC in Auto mode?

Please try the Output Tests as I suggested above and report back. :)

Whilst running on each motor, VCDS shows the specified (where the controller wants the flaps) and actual (where the feedback pots prove the position of the flaps) values of each of the control flaps.

Incorrect servo motors plugged in backward from recent work possibly.................

What does recent service history state?

There has not been any recent service on Ac system apart from cabin filter exhaust pipe replacement.

Nevertheless check that servo motors are properly plugged in in their correct locations for each component as per the WD.

I tried the output tests today. VCDS screen shows the regular test screen with "Start/Nest" but there was no way to select sequential mode.So I only continued clicking 'start/next' until the program run through all tests of actuators. I could hear actuators move during the test. But this is the new thing I observed: In the AUTO mode, no air comes out of dash vents at all. Soon as I tried to force open those two closed flaps under the cabin filter, suddenly I have cooled air flow through all dash vents. When I leave let go of flaps, air flow stops immediately unless I push ECON button, which wont give me any cooled air though air will flow through vents.
Now what could cause these two flaps under cabin filter to close that tight in AC AUTO mode?
Is there a way I could send pictures to support these new observations?? To send pics, vcds says attach pic from URL but not sure how to create this link. All pics are loaded on my desktop.

Isn't that the recirc flap you're fiddling with??? Maybe the fresh air intake is completely blocked with debris/rats/bird nests etc? Or someone forgot to remove the plastic wrapping off the cabin filter :D

Jack-

See pics. I wedge a plastic screw driver handle to open flaps and now I have cooled air flowing through dash vents. No AC was working fine until cabin cabin filter was replaced and then Basic settings done on AC system. I am not sure if the basic settings triggered these flaps closing when ac is on but opens only when ECON button pressed. In actuator output test (see pic) these two flaps under the cabin filter open easily and close. Can this be wrong flap motor polarity supply from J255??

Hey TFSI,

If the ambient temperature is high, switching to AUTO mode will close the airflow flaps shown in your picture (V71) and opens the recirc flaps by the cabin filter (V113). This prevents the A/C from having to cool hot air from outside, instead recirculating cooled interior air, therefore cooling the car interior faster.

It looks like your airflow flaps are functioning correctly, but your recirc flaps are not as they are staying closed. There is also a DTC relating to the recirc flap potentiometer which is bad news. When in AUTO mode it sounds like both of your air intake routes into the blower unit (recirc and fresh air from outside) are closed, explaining why there is no air coming from the air outlets (or vents).

You say the cabin filter and exhausts were changed, why was this? Was there an accumulation of water due to a blocked exhaust?

Also, what values are you seeing in MVB 008 in AUTO mode?

Mr. M.

See MVB 08 taken. Cabin filter was changed because of leaves/debris. Exhaust flex pipe rusty and was replaced and welded. I have looked in the two flaps area for any possible debris/obstacle which could block it but nothing found. Both flaps open when ECON button is activated. see pics. It looks like J255 changes the terminal polarity for these motors but wrongly..I dont know. Or could the unsuccessful adaptation of G143 be the the main cause?

The unsuccessful adaption could be it due to errors requiring correction.
Did you weld In the car un-isolated?

Welding was done underneath car, isolated from AC system.
