Disable TCS/ESP on 2017 Passat NMS

Bought the Passat last November and got caught in slippery snow storm over the winter. I believe I could have gotten through this with TCS/ESP off button, like I did on my previous Audi A6. So I looked into adding a TCS/ESP defeat button connected to the ABS module. I've since connected everything and verified that ABS module is getting the 12V+ pulse but TCS/ESP does not seem to be turned off when clicking the button either momentarily or after a long press. From what I can gather it will likely require an update to the long coding for the ABS module.

I've read that 2012-2013 Passat have the following changes to get TCS/ESP defeat. - For some folks it just worked without coding, but for 2014+ required coding.
MY12 - C54BC0F549288002A31203EB921E0142A61000 - 19 byte - Trying this with VCDS returned values out of range.
MY14 - C54BC0F549280001A30F03E692190042A1180022 - 20 byte - Have not tried this, because the bytes on my coding is not like on this users original values.

However those are from vehicles prior to automatic braking and ACC (Active Cruise Control)

MY17 - C54BC0F549230000A30C03EB921E004100F1F01A - 20 byte This is my default ABS module Long Code,
Note: This is a 2017 NMS Passat SEL Premium which has the auto braking, auto cruise control, park assist etc....

Ideally we can find a vehicle with similar equipment and ABS module with ACC/automatic braking that also has the ESP defeat button, to see their coding. Maybe a vehicle from a different market?

Thanks TBAx - Yes advanced measuring values shows that the ESP button is active when it is clicked.

I changed the byte 20 from 1A to 2A which now turns off ASR, but this usually is paired with another byte (for example 2014 uses byte 19 and byte 17). However holding down the button for longer than 3 seconds does not turn off ESP. So this only partially works. Will need to figure out how to turn ESP off. But for now ASR is good enough for the main purpose of gaining some traction in extra slippery conditions.

Will get back to this if I can figure out the correct byte 17 coding - hopefully that will disable ESP with long press.

OK just went out for a quick spin - It indeed turns off ASR, while ASR is turned off "Front Assist" also shows as not available. So ACC (Active Cruise) and Front Assist (Auto Braking) is turned off when ASR is Off. This is to be expected since it basically disables ABS activation in these scenarios. Makes sense now that I think of it. When I entered the ABS control module using VCDS, it also said ACC not available, so it disables ACC. I was able to test traction control off because it just so happens we have our first day of rain after a few days without it, and the roads around here are supper slippery. With TCS on tire chirps and gets traction pretty quickly. With ASR turned off it allows the wheels to slip and spin but really if I give it a lot more pedal something else seems to kick in to reduce power, not sure if it is the ESP/ESC or something else.

Hope to figure out ESP off too. Changing byte 18 from F1 to F8 is accepted by the controller, but still does not turn off ESP/ESC. In fact it changes (Extended) Electronic Differential Lock (XDS - PR-UG3/UG4) to active/installed but I don't think the 2017 NMS Passat has XDS installed - although the controller allows this change.

OK after doing some additional investigation, it looks like there are multiple "stages" to this and the pairing byte allows the ESP/ESC to be turned off. Will need to figure out which one is the pairing byte to allow this to be turned into 2 stage, where a single click is ASR-off and a prolonged click is ESP/ESC-off.

OK After some digging the ABS-ESP module is similar to many in Europe. Basically the last byte 20 allows switching between different stages. If you play around with the bits you can see different behavior.

Byte 20:
change to 2A = Single Stage - ASR-OFF along with front assist and ACC off
change to 6A = Double Stage - ESC-Sport (quick press), ESC-OFF (long press)
change to 7A = Double Stage - ASR-OFF (quick press), ESC-OFF (long press)

Now I'd really have to double check some of this since only 2A turns off Front Assist and ACC. Changing to 6A and 7A leaves front assist and ACC on, so will need to verify if indeed these are working as displayed on the screen.

Quick update with ignition on and engine running, it all works, 6A and 7A works but front assist is disabled as expected when doing this. So all is well. There may be other combinations like ASR and esc-sport 2 stage, but i've found what i was after. For others looking for other settings when you go into long coding and select byte 20, edit the actual bits to figure out different settings.

I know this is an old tread but I just found it. I have a 17 Passat with adaptive cruise, parking assist and push button start. It is an SE and I really wanted to add the traction control button. I was wondering if anyone has any updated information. Or updated coding information
