1996 passat GLX won't record readiness

Readiness bits in basic settings will pass (xxxx x100), but it doesn't record that to the readiness menu. Checking readiness with my handheld Autel also says it's not ready.

Car was in a while ago for emissions repairs, readiness was set then, but had faults. First autoscan.
After repairs were done, faults were cleared and they drove it over 200 miles.

I've tried two ECU's and two others that we had that had a MIL circuit fault, but obviously wouldn't pass with the CEL on.
Both ECU's do the exact same thing, will pass readiness at basic settings, but it doesn't record that it's been set.

Am I still chasing an ECU issue?
I have a feeling I've dealt with this before, but can't remember the result.

I also have three other autoscans of the vehicle dating back to 2011, all with different faults and all had the readiness set when it came in the next time with new faults.

Those 1996 ECUs were notoriously difficult with respect to Readiness.

Jack will probably chime in with some advice.

    -Uwe-
The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

Last time it was in it had misfires and the boss wanted to use a ford coil pack to replace the VW coil. A vacuum leak was found on the brake booster one way valve and capped. I don't believe anyone tried to check readiness after work was completed, especially since it was an intermittent fault. Other than that, all stock, except for the cluster which is now just over 28000 miles old.

I think this only has EVAP, but I'll look closer for an LDP tomorrow. I couldn't ever get MBV 153 to start the test, but 150 always ran and was passing. After a short test drive while in Basic Settings, all the readiness had been set in their respected MBV, just not saving it to where readiness is read.

I'm sure this is just going to be common terms used in different shops, but what's TV an acronym for in your world? Haven't had to do a remote yet with HEX-NET, but we can try!

Thanks for the links! Good info in your thread I'll have to save and print out.

Including the rest of the autoscans I have of vehicle:

I don't think so; those are all older scans.

Since the tests run but the bits aren't stored, maybe time to give this ECU a proper re-boot?

The engineering problems are likely insurmountable. It would be like proposing to land a rocket booster section on a barge floating in the middle of the ocean.

TV = Throttle Valve or Team Viewer remote session.

Agreed a default with a TV is advised always when setting up a readiness path to be commenced unless on the second DCY doing static readiness tests in the bay.

Uwe, procedure on reboot? Discharge it by jumping the battery cables together? It had been unplugged for a few days before I had tried it again, but if there is another manual reboot that I could do, I'll give it a shot.

I'll pull it back in and discharge the ECU, adapt the throttle body, and try running readiness again.

Same result. Amazingly, SAI runs and passes on this car and is the easiest test to see if it passes readiness. So I run that test first and check readiness. Cycle the key and still readiness isn't set for SAI. Throttle body adapted okay in MBV 098. Both EVAP and LDP pass in their respected MBV, but still don't record.
