I am looking for some direction on how to correct some possible coding issues I am having with an install of a 9WZ module to my 2009 Passat Wagon with RNS-510.

It seems I am getting random boxes that should be Icons (Battery, Signal) in the MFD when in the Phone Menu.

EDIT: Moved to retrofits since I rather doubt that this Telephone (J412) module came in that car from the factory.

The protocol used by the telephone module to communicate with the
instrument cluster requires the cluster to have a full set of
characters/symbols which are then being displayed as instructed by
the telephone module. In this case your instrument cluster was
released prior to this type of telephone system which means it
doesn't support the necessary characters/symbols.

Since there is no software update available for your instrument
cluster which would fix this, the only known way to cure these
issues would be to replace the instrument cluster with a newer version.

I'll add that I am not aware of a way to turn the icons (or lack of them) on/off. The displayed information varies based on the FW in the Instrument cluster in addition to the 77 module itself.

I'll also add (based on personal experience with a handful of devices, two Mk6 platform vehicles with three 77 modules, two RNS-510s and one RCD-510) that the exact behavior between the phone/device that is connected and the 77 module can vary based on the device itself. Neither VCDS or the dealer VAS scan tool can change that behavior.
