Dear all,

Hope to get some help/advise in here.
I am driving VW Golf 1.6TDi 77kw, mk6, 2010 and got flashing ignition coil and message of "engine failure".
This flashing only appears in the morning, when my car is completly cooled down, one minute after start this flashing disappeares.
When I pluged my diag cable in, there were one fault found P242A - malfunkction.
1 Fault Found
7355 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor; B1 S3
P242A 00 [165] - Malfunction
MIL ON - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 54052 km
Date: 2083.14.27
Time: 08:48:51

After deletion and recheck again there was no fault found. Even when I stop engine and start it again - nothing - all ok.

Again in the morning, flashing appears for a minute with same fault P242A.
Looks for me this is kind of failure of sensor, needed to setup some values before engine start - once engine is started, sensor is not used - during driving, there are no fault codes.

Once, when I started car in the morning and tried to drive immediately during ignition coil flashing, I get P242B fault code (engine error symbol remained on dashboard even after restart)
When I deleted fault codes, no faults found again - only next morning P242A again....and this is how it goes each morning.

Could you please help me to recognize, what could be damaged (sensor, location...etc) If I can fix it at home, or car service is needed?

Thanks for any help guys.
Jozef

Even though those might be the only faults you have, you are going to need to post a full Auto-Scan including all the Auto-Scan header information before anyone is going to be able to properly help you so we can see exactly what your car is made up of.

You don't need to post a picture. Just do an Auto-Scan and then press "Copy" button (or open a saved log file and do CTRL-A followed by CTRL-C to copy all the contents to your clipboard), then paste the copied text into a forum post, preferably between between

tags, or use the # button in the formatting buttons at the top of the post when in advanced editing mode and then paste in your Auto-Scan text. For more detailed info, see this post for how to do that.

To be able to post in other sections of the forum you first need to register your cable. You can do that HERE.

Hi,
today I tried to make auto scan, but car was already running so there is no fault looks like.

01-Engine -- Status: OK 0000
02-Auto Trans -- Status: OK 0000

04-Steering Angle -- Status: OK 0000
08-Auto HVAC -- Status: OK 0000
09-Cent. Elect. -- Status: OK 0000
10-Park/Steer Assist -- Status: OK 0000
15-Airbags -- Status: OK 0000
16-Steering wheel -- Status: OK 0000
17-Instruments -- Status: OK 0000
19-CAN Gateway -- Status: OK 0000
25-Immobiliser -- Status: OK 0000

42-Door Elect. Driver -- Status: OK 0000
44-Steering Assist -- Status: OK 0000
46-Central Conv. -- Status: OK 0000
52-Door Elect, Pass -- Status: OK 0000
56-Radio -- Status: OK 0000

Trying Address 01

So I need to do it tomorrow morning before engine start. As I wrote, ignition flashing appears only in the morning before start (for 2 minutes and than dissappears).
Actualy fault can be found in history, but once deleted and checked again - all seems to be ok. weird

I believe you will have to post a FULL autoscan.

2 purposes:

1. They actually do want to know what your car is "made up from".

2. They want to ensure that you are a paying customer, before they offer any "serious" help.
(This will require things like software-version-number and such to be included in the posting you make)

You see, - if you fail on item 2 Ross-Tech will move your post to "Hall of Shame" :-)

Sure, I can understand and all is clear for me.
Anyway, need to wait for tomorrow morning startup to get fault code and run full scan (which I did not found important as of now for dedication of my issue for some mechanics, once fault codes and description was made)
