Audi S3 8V new rear brake discs, callipers and line locks fitted - now EPB fault

i've just fitted big brakes to the rear of my Audi S3 8V this included removing the stock line lock and replacing with one sized for the new caliper hangers. I didn't touch the electric supply cable to the EPB motor. All went fine until i started her up and tried the EPB and the fault light came on the dash. The EPB locks on and will not come off - either when lifting the clutch or manually pressing the button. I can release it if i run the parking brake test module. The following VCDS report came up. Can anyone assist please? many thanks.

You need to be a little more specific, depending on the variant in your car - there are more than 50 different security access codes, each with a different function/meaning.

Yep, people tend to be under the impression that there's ONE security access code that opens up everything in a specific module, but unfortunately, windmills do not work that way. ;)

I took the liberty of merging your two topics, as this is really what this is about. Looking at your DTCs, I don't see anything where a security access code may even remotely help you.

According to your initial statement, you replaced the rear brakes. What part numbers and pr codes were the original ones and what are the current/new ones? Where did the new parts come from (new or used, audi or aftermarket)? Why did you replace the rear brakes in the first place? A complete Auto-Scan should always be included in any topic in this forum, in cases like this - the vehicle VIN is crucial as well.

Did you just bolt on your equipment and plug it in or did you retract the old calipers to baseline and then install the new calipers?

Is the brake module the correct part for the upgrade, rotor thickness, and pad thickness?

New aftermarket calipers, pads, discs and line locks as part of a big brake kit upgrade. The EPM motor is the orgiginal. I didn't post the rest of the autoscan as that didn't show any faults so i didn't think it would be pertinent? I am new to VCDS so don't know where all the functionality is at the moment. After i had changed everything and put the wheels back on the brakes did apply and I heard the usual motors driving them on. The problem then was that I couldn’t release them either by manually lifting the switch - whilst my foot was on the brake as is required. I also couldn’t pull away by lifting the clutch pedal to biting point. The only way I could release them was to plug in the VCDS and go through the emergency brake test module which cycles them on and off. I can't understand why the fault refers to a short circuit - surely if this were the case the EPB wouldn't work at all as it would have blown a fuse?

How do i measure the step count?

You need to start over............

Do you have the SSP and Repair manual?

Are your line locks interfering with the function?

I hate retrofits and technically this is where this belongs not being general car repair.

I bet you didn't default the module and basic brake settings......... and just retracted like doing brake pads.......?

First you need to make sure the park brake motors work and move the calipers in and out manually!

Move the calipers all the way in manually relaxed bottom out.....then clear DTC's and trace if with fault or replace module from frying due to failing to use a battery charger or bug in module.

Once faults for shorts are rectified setup module for new install.

Posting a complete auto-scan & PR codes is absolutely always relevant because it gives us details you negate, as does the JPPSG.

Simulate/isolate the EBP function by leaving motors uninstalled from mechanical circuit and get module to operate without a fault!

You need to start over............

Do you have the SSP and Repair manual?

Are your line locks interfering with the function?

I hate retrofits and technically this is where this belongs not being general car repair.

I bet you didn't default the module and basic brake settings......... and just retracted like doing brake pads.......?

First you need to make sure the park brake motors work and move the calipers in and out manually!

Move the calipers all the way in manually relaxed bottom out.....then clear DTC's and trace if with fault or replace module from frying due to failing to use a battery charger or bug in module.

Once faults for shorts are rectified setup module for new install.

Posting a complete auto-scan & PR codes is absolutely always relevant because it gives us details you negate, as does the JPPSG.

Simulate/isolate the EBP function by leaving motors uninstalled from mechanical circuit and get module to operate without a fault!

Thanks. I had already watched the video before i started. Ironic that most of that isnt actually in the Audi repair manual that i have but anyway. The parking brake motors do work - they engage and disengage but not necessarily on command - when i press the EPB button. They will come on and the light on the dash appears and then they are unable to be disengaged - unless i plug in the VCDS and run the test EPB module. I can't understand why the fault codes are saying the motors have shorted but they still work? How can they still work if they have been shorted?
