Hello everybody,

I have a 2017 Q3 base model.
The main reason I got the HEX-V2 is to enable TMPS.
My Pontiac had it 10 years ago and it was the real TMPS not the fake ABS relative speed one.

I tried to enable it though VCDS following some instructions on the web, by enabling the green menu first.
That didn't work, 5F, Channel 06 remains at 0 even though I tried to set it to 1 and it said OK.

I also found some instructions on the ABS module, but my part isn't known to VCDS so I didn't dare to do it blindly.
That called for byte 16, bit 2, which won't even show up as a checkbox for my part.
Not to mention that my byte 16 was 0x04, which I think means bit 2 is already set.

I could really use some directions on how to achieve this goal.
A kind mechanic at the dealer looked up my PR codes and said it could be enabled by "third party" tools, but no dealer will do it because that is how they distinguish between "models". In other words, you don't pay, you don't get it, even though.... anyway... enough ranting.

Soooo, I am wondering if there is a solution to this.
I do have the 1AT ABS, but the other part is unknown to VCDS.
I posted my scan on the pre-sales forum, but I will post it here as well.

Thank you for any suggestions and please let me know if any other info is needed.

Moving to Tweaks since this isn't a physical retrofit.

Plenty of VW/Audi cars had "real" TPMS 10 or more years ago as well -- and we constantly get people begging us to help them disable it because they're too cheap to replace the sensors in the wheels that the batteries have gone dead in, or they didn't have the foresight to order their aftermarket (winter or performance) wheel and tire set with sensors. Oh, and the technology didn't exist back then to meet the standards using wheel speed measurements alone, so the manufacturers had no choice in how to implement it.

I don't have data for how to do it on that ABS module either. Maybe someone else does. It might be useful to google up other scans from that ABS system, particularly from cars that are known to have ABS from the factory.

Thank you Uwe,

I wasn't bashing the ABS based TPMS, my wife's Tiguan has it and it's fine, plus, like you said, it has the benefit of working with the winter tires as well.
I was simply showing my disappointment that a car in this price range doesn't have it enabled, as I suspect it has everything it needs to do it internally.

... looks like the part number is the one I have to search for: 5N0 614 109 CJ, right?
Or is it the Component: ESC-EBC460IV1?

Quick question, if I scan a car, will the VIN be used up?
I know someone with a loaded Q3 that I could scan.
I could probably also go into the coding and look at the individual settings if their VIN won't be used up.

From what I noticed, my VIN was registered when I tried to make changes and not when scanning, but I just wanted to be certain. I only have a 3 VIN licence and two VAG cars, so I would like to save the third for the near future... :-)

Thank you for your help.

A VIN doesn't get used up by the HEX-V2 when scanning a car unless you you do an optical bus diagnostic scan. The actions that use up a VIN are listed in the following post...

The following posts on here contain Auto-Scans that show the same ABS Brakes (J104) controller as your car (both posts are by the same owner). Might be worth PM'ing the owner and asking if he/she has TPMS enabled on their car. The car has a different long coding value for the J104 to what you have on your car...

You can try if this coding in [03-ABS] is accepted:
42FF269F492143702077420964C592C20424D500508B4883

and change coding in [17-Instrument] to:
32CF01

Probably also activate marker at [4C] in Gateway list coding for [19-CAN Gateway]

For [5F-Information Electr.] I am very unsure if this is correct, to activate a menu, if that it is possible at all:
0100060002C051070023000102010000010000

Thank you very much, Gentlemen, for the info and the suggestions.
And apologies to NEtech, for my assumption of gender if I got it wrong. :)

I will try and report back.

Hello everybody,

I have a 2017 Q3 base model.
The main reason I got the HEX-V2 is to enable TMPS.
My Pontiac had it 10 years ago and it was the real TMPS not the fake ABS relative speed one.

You are talking about individual sensors in each wheel right? like @ https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-...System-TPMS-Sensors/b?ie=UTF8&node=2201764011

Before you get too far down this rabbit hole, you better confirm that your wheels actually have those sensors, because most likely if the factory did not enable that feature there is no way in heck they are going to spend the money to put sensors in the wheels that are not even going to be enabled.

No amount of vcds tweaks is going to enable tpms for sensors that are not there, nor enable functionality in the TPMS module that does not exist.

My 2014 gti loaded didn't even have actual tpms sensors, I just assume that all or most all modern VAG vehicles also use the ABS based tpms and do not include sensors or the module to use sensors.

It all comes down to cost savings, why would VAG spend the extra money when they have systems that work nearly as well for cheaper.

Thanks Bro, but I'm not that stupid. :)
Yes, my Pontiac had the Schrader valve sensors, but I know most recent cars have the ABS based indirect TMPS.
This is what I was hoping to enable here.
And when I was complaining about the cost I meant that for the price I paid, and with a very good chance that the hardware supports it, they could have enabled it from the factory. It is a safety feature after all.

NEtech, Thank you VERY much for the codes!!!

Here is the scoop, I tried this with the beta version of VCDS.

After changing byte 18 for ABS from D0 to D5, I didn't see any change.
But after enabling TMPS, which was a labeled checkbox for byte 03 for Instrument, my TPMS icon briefly flashed on the speedometer!!!

I think that's a major step forward and I am very appreciative for the codes.
I think I will even deflate one tire to test it out and then fill it with air instead of argon, I am that optimistic about this!!!

The menu in 5F, which I assume was intended to enable the tire pressure reset in the MMI menu, didn't work.
I even tried a reset of MMI with the three buttons, to no avail.

I presume that TPMS can be reset with VCDS, in order to "learn" the current pressure, but it would be nice to enable the MMI menu.
I will continue to search the web, as I remember seeing something somewhere.

If I do, I will post details, especially if successful.

Thanks again, if I ever make it to Denmark, I will bring you a six-pack of some good Canadian brewskies.

OK gotcha.

I thought TPMS was mandatory everywhere, but maybe not in canada?

I really can't imagine that any 2017 vehicle would not include tpms, even if there is no 'interface' for it in your MMI.

Anyway, good luck in your search I hope you are able to enable it if it is indeed not already.

Thank you, D-Dub, I think I just managed to do it, see post above yours.
I was in the same boat - why wouldn't they enable it if the hardware supports it?!?!?

Now I just need to find a way to enable the reset menu in MMI.
I just found a post that says the green menu can't be enabled on the non-NAV radios, which is what I have.

I am still hopeful that it can be enabled through VCDS.

Please when you (and a lot of other people) look in the forums, look carefully what is written about models, year, software etc.
Your link describes an Audi A3 (8V), it is not like your Audi Q3, it uses for example UDS protocol (Like what your [03-ABS] is using) in [5F].

Have you tried what I wrote ?

Hello NEtech,

Please have a look at my post #9 on the previous page. :)
I am very grateful to you for your help, but it seems to me you only read the last post and not my previous reply. So I can't be mad at you. :D

In short, yes, I know cars are different, but I am hanging on to every bit of information right now. Additionally, while I learn the lingo and how this works, everything that looks relevant is peaking my interest.

And yes, I tried what you said and it partially worked.
My beer offer still stands... :)

Thank you very much. Please see my reply on page 1, post #9

There was a post that just disappeared, with info on the non-MMI radio.
I don't have code 56- Radio on my car, probably the reason for the post being removed.
Thank you very much.

Maybe you need the new label file Dana did in this thread - http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?9876-2017-Audi-Q7-Developer-Mode ??

Sorry, saw only new replies on page 2.

Did you activate [4C] in [19] Gateway list coding ?

Can you please post an new Autoscan, after driving some days.

If the Byte 18 is correct for TMPS, then D5 should be for PR-code 7K6 and D7 should be for PR-code 7K1
42FF269F492143702077420964C592C20424D500508B4883
42FF269F492143702077420964C592C20424D700508B4883
I suggested 7K6 because that has US model 2017, older model years (European) use 7K1.
You could try D7, if there is no indication of TMPS after driving some days.

Do you have some active adaption channels and measurement values, regarding TMPS ?

Sorry, I was so excited seeing the TPMS icon light up, I totally missed that step for module 19.
Would you mind providing details, I can't figure out what marker 4c means.

Total newbie here, when you say "indication of TPMS" after driving, does that mean driving with an underinflated tire?

And your final question, regarding adaptations, I have no idea what that means. I didn't make any other changes. I will try to read up on measurements, sounds like something in VCDS.

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me.
Once this is complete, I will summarize it in a new post with step by step, for the benefit of others.
