Hello All!

New to Ross-Tech, VCDS, and the forum - looks like a cool place!

So, I've just spent the last two years rebuilding a B7 S4, I rebuilt the engine, and the mechatronics unit with new solenoids, separator plate, stem seals, etc. Before installing the engine, I also replaced brittle connectors on just about every plug in the engine bay with new ones.

I've started the car and driven around the neighborhood - the engine runs great but it shocks into gear on every shift (even 6th!). I expected like this if it had learned poorly flowing old solenoids during it's past life, but my problem is I cannot get the transmission to reset learned values. The Basic Settings button under automatic transmission is grayed out on VCDS and I cannot select it. I tried Adaptives Reset with moving forward and backward 20meters, but that doesn't seem to have helped at all. If someone could help guide me on how to activate the transmission learned values reset, I'd appreciate it.

Second issue - ESP G419 No Communication. I thought maybe the unit died while the car sat as a shell for a few years, or maybe a voltage spike, etc. etc. I replaced the unit and the ESP light and ABS light are still on. All the fuses on driver side dash are OK, battery voltage is OK, in VCDS I can see plausible wheel speeds from all four corners, steering sensor plausible values too. Not sure where to look next. Some suggestions would be appreciated!

How many of those fault codes are current? There look to be some that MAY be historical - try clearing all fault codes and see which remain would be my suggestion for the first step.

I don't see any explicit "learned values" reset in this TCM.

Slamming into every gear sounds like a pressure control problem, but I'm by far not an expert on automatic transmissions.

Thanks for the info guys! Do you think the MAF would cause these hard shifts?

Does anyone know why my Auto Trans> Basic Settings button has been grayed out and not selectable? Is there any advise on how to enable it?

When it is grayed, it means there is no Basic Settings in that Control Module.
Why do you think there should be Basic Settings to do some reset ?

There is erase of clutch in Adaptation Channel 01

The B7 has the 6hp19 ZF transmission - I was pretty sure people had referenced using basic settings to reset adaptive values, etc. for the automatic transmission. Of course, maybe I had seen incorrectly about that.

I'll look into the MAF, and try doing the relearn with Adaptation channel 01.
AFT is the right level.

Are the pressures correct for relief in the ATF regulation?

The clutch adaptions can be reset in the ZF 6HP19 transmission, but can only be reset by a VW specific diagnostic tool like VCDS from around 2007MY (at least here in the UK) unless the TCM software is reflashed by a dealer. The reflash may have a related TPI which may require a different ATF. The adaptions can be reset on earlier vehicles using a ZF tool which is probably only available to ZF themselves.

I very much doubt that pressing the reset button will fix this issue you have though; the transmission will adapt to where it needs to be regardless of whether or not a reset has been carried out so maybe try NETech's procedure above. As per other suggestions above though, there is probably an issue that needs fixing.
