Hi all, I am repairing a w8 (3B bosh 5.7 with stability control) for a close friend. it had the abs light come on but was at another shop. the car came to me because they had attempted to repair the unit but then advised they could not code it as soft coding was set to 00000 and would not save on exit.
not knowing what the original coding was I got the build data and calculated the login to be 08497 and coding to be 05397.
after many attempts and changing to ws code to 11111 made no difference to the situation.
The owner has sourced a used unit from the Uk which we fitted today and it has no soft coding either and the ws code is 00000.
I have attempted to code this unit also and get the same result so either i am doing something wrong or these units are both having internal memory problems??
I have coded several in the past on A3 chassis as they seem to loose soft coding at times for no reason as well.

Any pointers or am i missing something? I have also tried basic setting to do steering angle alignment but this doesnt seem to work either. Engine fault code says coding error with ABS also.
:)

Have you been here?

You must do the Steering Angle Sensor calibration immediately after the Login and the Coding.

Watch the video linked at the bottom of the page.

Hi yes unit was an exact match on numbers.. I have to get the car back now to try wat Uwe has advised! I did try the calibration of steering first as many say you cant get coding to save if codes are present. So i will try the process again on the replacment unit login> coding> steering alignment >exit and Save .. thank you for the help will post back results if it works if not will save the scans. It still seems odd that these units loose soft coding in the first place??

I did use the instructions but didn't notice the video link!!

The Germans have their reasons... I guess...

A lot of modules enjoy playing the game of "Hope you ran Auto-Scan first!" It is a fun game, you go to do some trivial task and the ABS module wipes the coding out. On an older Passat like this, not that big of a deal. But on newer vehicles.... I hope you ran Auto-Scan first.

With the Bosch 5.3 and 5.7 flavors, the soft coding is not locked down until you perform a successful G85 relearn during the same diagnostic session. In other words, if you code the module, but exit out of the ABS, coding is lost. If there is something that would prevent the G85 relearn from happening correctly, you can't lock down the soft coding.
