On my 2006 Audi A8L 4.2... I replaced the Secondary Air Pump a couple of weeks ago, it seemed like it did the trick in getting rid of the "Insufficient Flow" DTC code from the previous pump. However about 500kms later, the same codes have come back. So I thought I should check to make sure that the replacement pump is actually working... I wanted to run an "output test" that will activate the pump?

If in fact the output test is under the 01 Engine Module (where the DTC code came from)... then I would guess that there are probably a ton of output tests for that system? Is there any way to skip over other tests to get to a specific output test?

With only the Sequential tests available, no, I don't think there's a way to skip over any.

Sounds like a cause verse effect diagnosis treating the disease only........

Why did you change the SAI pump...due to ice or damage from water most likely?

I bet the combi circuit is sticking open to a degree or vacuum lines if supported are not correct and leaking vacuum or the noid in control could be holding or not opening the combi at all.

If the combi valves stick open, allowing water to penetrate the pump from exhaust cases & in cold temps,.......... it will destroy a new pump rather quickly.

0x01-04-077 and 078 .........run them all you like.

You're absolutely right... I wish I knew why my mechanic just swapped out the pump and did no other diagnosis... most likely, because that was the easiest thing to do with the least amount of effort... I already had picked up a used pump that was available to him to swap in if that ended up being the problem. So just like in most cases, I get the car back from the shop and I end up having to do a bunch of diagnosis myself... case in point, he did a steering rack last week, and gave it back with the steering angle sensor off by 360 degrees, which caused ESP to fail... took me all day Saturday to figure out that it needed to be re-calibrated. So here I am now trying to figure out what is up with the Secondary Air system!!! You are most likely correct, that there is probably a leaking hose somewhere.

If that is indeed the case tell your shop "Your FIRED!"

I hear you... and I have considered it... unfortunately, I am good friends with the owner, who also owns a D3 A8 and knows them well... but like any other place, they are overly busy and if there is a way to take a short-cut they take it. In my case, many times, they rely on my fairly deep knowledge of the cars systems and they know I browse forums such as this one and others that have knowledgeable D3 owners and run VCDS. So, my guess is that they assumed I had it already figured out... but not in this case. In my last post, I was just venting... normally, they are very good and we do work in conjunction with each other, but I have found there is no shop that is perfect... they all have faults.

Well, what I found was that I had to turn on the TEST MODE for the Secondary Air system in block 77/78... only then could I run the Output tests? Anyways, I did so and the Pump seemed to run ok... hard to say what is ok, but at least the pump ran. Other tests include relay and valve opening and closing... all of which seemed to work. So, back to Jack's initial guess that there is probably a leaky hose in the system somewhere.

Very interesting, and not as surprising as you would think... So what is included in that kit, other then the pump?
