Enabling Adaptive Lane Tracking on NAR Golf 7 R

The Lane Assist feature of my MY2016 NAR Golf 7 R seems to be pretty mild. Left to its own devices, the car often "ping pongs" between lines until the "hands off" timer gives up and asks the driver to take control.

I've recently been playing around with the A5 control module and I found this tweak pretty interesting:



The adaptation channel Intervention moment is by default is set to Late. There are options for Early, Late, Early (setting via menu), and Late (setting via menu). Changing the adaptation channel to the latter two (using SA 20103) enables an Adaptive lane tracking menu option under Lane Assist:



I believe the Early setting corresponds to having Adaptive lane tracking set to on. With adaptive lane tracking, Lane Assist very noticeably keeps the car centred between the lines, rather than "ping ponging" off them. It's quite a big difference! Adaptive lane tracking feels much more like an auto-pilot mode.

Give it a try and see what you think. Enabling the menu option lets you toggle between the two modes without VCDS.

Finally, it's important to note that I think this might only be possible on MY2016 vehicles.

I have a Canadian MY2016 with the Technology Package, equivalent to the Driver's Assistance Package in the U.S. My A5 module is 5Q0-980-653-G. I had a chance to work on a new Canadian MY2017 on the weekend, and I don't see the same channel in its much-smaller adaptation map. The MY2017 has the new frameless rearview mirror and lower-profile camera module, part 3Q0-980-654-G. It has less than one-third the available adaptation channels, so it doesn't appear as hackable.

I discovered this while trying to program Light Assist on the MY2017. I noticed LA moved from Byte 2 (on the 5Q0-980-653-G module) to Byte 21 (on the 3Q0-980-654-G module):



The various controllers accepted all of the coding, and the Light Assist icon illuminates in the MFD, but we haven't tested it on the road. Notably missing from the MY2017 are some of the adaptation channels that govern Light Assist behaviour (e.g. Speed threshold for high beam recommendation off, Activation speed for high beam assistant, etc.)

By the way, I absolutely love how fast VCDS now pulls adaptation channel maps, even with my ancient serial HEX-CAN cable. Thanks! :)

Did you have any luck activating the FLA? I have a MY2016 Golf Sportwagon Highline with Light and Technology Packages, and it was delivered with FLA. However, in a recent recall VW actually deactivated my FLA (WITHOUT my consent or even telling me they were changing anything), and I am trying to reactivate it.

With the above it doesn't seem to happen just yet. I'm sure it is a multi-module approach. Any chance that you could post a full Scan of your modules 09 and 55 as well?

Would love to get my car back to the state it was in when before VW started messing with it...
