There is some issue with 16.8.1

I have on the bench lot of stuff, all is good, proper connection etc , doing test every day and last time (after update to 16.8.1) small issue

When you do Autoscan - Missing ROD file and display Unknow Errors ...etc (but not on all controlers)
but when you go do that module - all is ok , but not always
Sometime when you IN, show - missing ROD file , all you need is go back to main screen and go IN again and work

Already tested on 5F module few time , never seen that issue before.
All files are there , checked twice

Similar issue, but probably because of my old, slow and overloaded PC.
When doing autoscan of K line cars, sometimes looks like VCDS is "too fast" for car showing

You may see some improvement here if you turn on the two "Reduce CPU Usage" options in the Options screen. Give it a try and let us know.

This was MY laptop for a while in the previous decade. Wow, it's heavy! It hasn't been used in a while. The most recent version of VCDS on it was 11.11.

FWIW, this computer feels MUCH FASTER than the horrible little EeePC.

On the occasions I've seen this myself (see internal thread 5781, and additional emails after) it's been highly correlated with KWP-2000 rather than KWP-1281. My secret decoder ring came out of a cereal box, but I'll hazard a guess the above cars are mostly or fully KWP-1281, whereas the 2004 TT belonging to MartinsX is new enough that it might be some or all KWP-2000.

If your bench Touareg project ever came to fruition, that would be an interesting test.

True, there's literally nothing with KWP-2000 in any of the three cars I've posted scans from above.

But MartinsX's TT hardly has any either -- looks like only the tranny and the ABS use KWP-2000 and neither of those modules exhibit the problem.

Thanks a lot, Ross-Tech team for investigations!

I did my own investigations, too, and I can say that I can reproduce similar issues only with probably overloaded RAM of computer. If I have multiple large pdf's opened at a time of doing autoscan with VCDS. For example, couple 1000 page wiring diagrams, size of 100Mb each. And this one of my computers was used for testing multiple software without reinstalling Win XP, so registry should be full of old unneeded strings and probably running processes . I'm sure the fresh installation of Win will work perfectly.
I'm more hardware than software guy, not strong in programming science, but my opinion is that MS Windows operating system should have something like "priority list" - what application will get access to hardware resources (CPU, RAM, HDD) first and what last. If some application is already running and using all available RAM and then I start VCDS and do autoscan, some interrupts are taking place.

Yes, this has always been an issue with Windows. Back when I started working on VAG-COM in late 1999, the machine I was using was a dual Pentium 166 (overclocked to 200) running NT4 (Windows 2000 had not yet been released) with 128 MB of RAM. Early on, I concluded that it would have been easier to do it "right" on a 4.77 MHz PC running DOS than on a much more powerful computer running Windows. But it was obvious that making the product for Windows was a market necessity...

Hrm, there goes that theory. Also, now that I'm reading closer, my interfaces have never spontaneously become unregistered during a scan. So this is Something Else. :)

I still have a fondness for the "Reduce CPU" options, and wouldn't mind seeing MartinsX try them, but I admit I'm without a concrete foundation for the suggestion.

I'm repairing a 2000 Audi A6 C5 2,5 TDI with faulty injection pump right now. I can do multiple autoscans for test purposes. Is it necessary to post everything in forum or better use some forum PM or e-mail of Ross-Tech team?

Could it be some USB driver issue? I have several diagnostic software installed on my PC and some are made by similar principle as VCDS - USB to car adapter cable with FTDI or equivalent USB to serial chip + software sending and receiving data to/from car. What if some unneeded driver automatically starts up when I connect VCDS interface? Or left active after another USB device is disconnected? Couple of times after using amateur/enthusiast self made Opel diagnostics I can't connect to any VAG car with VCDS at all. After restart of PC everything works fine again.
I'll set up another PC for work with VAG cars only. Just testing right now. Unfortunately its not possible to take week off just for testing some new equipment. I have to repair real cars for real customers every day. Only nighttime is available for repairing cars for friends of mine and playing with equipment etc. :D

I honestly don't know what it could be. If I had any ideas, I would gladly share them.

I think trying another computer is a good idea.

I might also try just a "clean boot". Use MSCONFIG to disable *everything* in the Startup tab, as well as all non-MS services.
