Code P1602-002 - Power Supply to terminal 30 voltage too low

Not sure what the best way is to pry up the circuit board. Does the connector come out with it? Is there a certain edge I need to lift first? Is this just a case where I lift...and try to cut the sealant with a razor? Or do I lift and keep lifting until the board pops free? Jack....I know I sound like a little girl....but I'm scared.

No big deal but good you are scared.

Heat case of unit with a hair dryer or heat gun to make the sealant more elastic.

Then pry the plastic plug carefully on the sides.
Use a flat head screw driver with even PSI and lift slowly.

The RTV will than peal like a banana.......

If you are still scared......... send it to me and I will peal it for you for free.

Just pay freight is all I ask .........if we are doing anything else with my other tools I use......... rates apply.

A TSB is always a first thing to check.

In the case for this vehicle, and the fact that this a serious problem for Q7......... it absolutely is a must.
This part is damaged in such significance of numbers, that there are none available in any USA dealer, and are on international back order.

This unit was just starting to see water so if its dry and he bags the unit he will be light years ahead of the cost or damages prevented going forward.

I had the forethought to stock up early on this application, when seeing the signs to come.

Hello Jack....are you able to somehow confirm that the ECM is okay? Can you test it to verify inputs/outputs? Per the Audi manual if I get no battery voltage to J271 Relay Terminal 30, and have verified that the wire to the ECM connector Pin is good - which I have done, that I should replace the ECM. My original Scans show so many things wrong that I'm not confident in anything....but I need to get the Audi going again, as it's been down far too long. Your advise is welcome.....thank you.

Yup......
Visual inspection under magnifier + infrared heat camera, and bread board or test vehicles.

I charge a fee of $350 USD + insured freight in advance, to test/observe + extract forensic shadow EEPROM data, if possible even after a flood on dead units.

This observation fee is applied toward a replacement of one of my available units...... so all is fair in both directions.

Have you tried manually testing the J271 relay or a jump out to see if the vehicle runs?

FYI to Forum and OP.

Unit is A-OK..........it looks like you need a relay J271 or fuse/wiring is damaged/ignition switch.

Unplug all consumers with faults reported in history and one at a time plug back in clear DTC and scan + to isolate.

I have hammer repaired the case NC, and ground the rough imperfections off that were done with the prying.

I have made a forensic backup of the units CP.
This was done in case something happens going forward and you need the data, or for a replacement key etc..

Just pay freight, and it's on its way back.

It appears you put about 25 KM on the truck since the last scan and the fault happened below I see.

Hello Ross-Tech Folks...! As you know I sent my engine ECM up to Jack at VW Emporium for evaluation. He received it and checked it out, and sent it back in just a couple of days - thank you Jack! As it turns out there were no issues with the "brain". So today I resealed the ECM and installed it. I then had to reinstall all of the air intake ducts, filter housings, all that stuff - not a fun job on a v8 Audi Q7. Well once everything was together I started it and it fired up immediately and held fast-idle for a few seconds, then settled down to a VERY rough idle. I shut it off and looked around and saw that one of the hoses going from the passenger's side cam cover to the oil vapor separator was slightly loose. As I moved it around it just cracked to pieces right at the coupling! So I cut off the damaged section and just happen to have a piece of high quality hose on shelf (from my old Testarossa). So I used a small segment of that hose and hooked everything back up. I then restarted the car and it ran pretty decent actually....not perfect but better than just minutes prior. I then hooked up Vag-Com and cleared the codes at which point the engine almost stalled but then recovered to a low semi-rough idle. I'm guessing that when clearing the codes the fuel trims were reset as well....so any compensations were back to zero. I then did a full scan, and it looks like there is a communication issue with the ECM. I am now going to explore the issues with the Evaporative Purge Valve N80, Secondary Air Pump Relay J299, etc.

please check if all of the connectors on the PCM are connected correcty. If so, delete all the DTC's and do the all the needed basic settings and report the findings.

Unplug N80 for Evap and J299 for SAI to see if short moves to open...............and clear DTC's as Dutchie stated.
Check tracks to these components.

Do this before damage does indeed occur to the ecu.

Hello Ross-Tech Team; as noted in my previous post, when I unplug the Evap-Purge-Valve and Secondary Air Pump....the ECM goes from "short-to-ground" to "open circuit". The EPC light still comes on about 20 - 30 seconds after start up, even with these two "short-to-ground" components unplugged. Out of necessity I have been driving the car on short trips...being very conservative. In the back of my mind...I'm starting to suspect the battery again, even though a couple of shops tested it and say it's okay. I have also noticed that my power windows "express up / down" feature no longer works. My wife says I need to get rid of this Q7, but I really like it and don't want to part with it. Dang it...!!!!

The express up/down thing with the windows is easy enough to fix, and VCDS is not used:

From the driver's door, run one of the windows all the way down until it hits the stop. Continue holding the switch in the down position for a couple of seconds. Release it. Press and hold in the down position for a couple of seconds. Now run it alll the way up. Continue holding the switch in the up position for a couple of seconds. Release it. Press and hold in the up position for a couple of seconds. You may need to repeat this whole process once or twice. Once that window is working properly again, repeat do the same thing with the other windows, one at a time.

As for your engine problems, I will defer to other peoples' expertise.

Thank You Uwe....all windows operating normally again! Sadly still no improvement on the EPC situation. So....sadly....I am going to go the dealership and discuss things with a mechanic, and explain all of the work I've done to this point. Then most likely I will just drop the Q7 off and let them fix it. I hate to do this but have no choice anymore. I will update everyone on the outcome.

Update....we do not have an Audi dealer in our city, but we do have a VW dealer...and I didn't think there would be an issue. However....they said all they can do is an oil change on the Audi...nothing more. Apparently Audi was upset over folks going to the VW dealers for parts and services, and put the clamps on all such activity. We have an independent shop in town that works on everything European, so I am going to see what they can do. Of course my biggest fear is that there will be thousands of dollars in labor just to find and replace a $30 part. Stay tuned.

Well....something has changed for the worse on the Audi. Fuse #13 (located in left plenum just below windshield) powers many components such as Secondary Air Pump, Evaporative Purge Valve, both Fuel Metering Valves, both MAF's, etc. Earlier in this thread Jack stated that this fuse and related components need to be evaluated. All of the scans so far show that the Secondary Air Pump, and Evaporative Purge Valve, are shorted to ground - when I unplug these items the scan then shows an open circuit. I did measure the resistance of the Evap-Valve since its easy to get o...and it is within specs. - so I assume the "short" must be after this component. What is odd is that even thought the scans show these are shorted to ground, the fuse #13 does not blow. Well....all of that came to an end as of this morning as this fuse is now blowing at each start up. So the problem has escalated...maybe this will actually help me find the issue now. I will work on the Audi again tonight. Also...I still plan to contact the independent Garage today to consult with them about this....if I can't find the issue I'll have the Audi trucked to them.
