Hello All,

So I have had my cable for almost a year and tinkered around with it but finally have a problem where I need more assistance than what I can find quickly online. Luckily there's Ross Tech and it's members!

Let's not forget about the great deal their product is, if not take your car to a dealership or ask them to walk you through a diagonisis than you will realize it.

Thanks in advance Ross Tech and the forum members who help everyone out!

How do you get authorized to post into the car repair forum? I know most forums you need to make the initial post then shortly after it will allow you to but it doesn't look that way.

Ideally I would like to mess with the car this evening and was hoping for some advice (I know beggers can't be choosers but figured it wouldn't hurt to try). I see people posting their info here, below is what I have. Please let me know if I should delete it or move it elsewhere. I would've posted it in car repair if I could.

I have a 2003 Cabriolet 1.8t. Most of the electronics are not working, roof, windows, remote, wipers, turn signals, ect. I thought it was the CCM based on some research and replaced it but that didn't help. I ran the scan and this is what I came up with (after clearing all of the codes that were stored). Keep in mind the battery died on the car, it was jumped, then the battery was replaced. I see two main problems, the steering angel sensor and steering column module. I looked into this and it said most likely there are optic "eyes" that get dirty and need to be cleaned or the angle sensor needs replaced. I also heard it can be reset. Does anyone know where I can start to diagnosis this? Would the Steering stuff have anything to do with the electronics problem?

Thanks in advance!

Here, you have to be a registered VCDS user, but our records indicate that the system you're using belongs to somebody else, so we have to be bureaucrats and ask: How did you acquire it?

Well, the CCM is conspicuously missing from the scan you posted. If it were me, I'd get out a multimeter and wiring diagram and check the basics, specifically is the CCM getting power where it should?

The cable was a present. It was purchased and given to me and I never registered it because I didn't need it until now. I saved all of the paperwork though if needed and it's difinately not registared to anyone else (since I had it since new).

I took out the CCM and bought a "new" one and replaced it. That was missing from the scan as well. The weird thing is if I push the button on the door for if having the car towed I believe, it will communicate with the module. Unfortunately the car is back together so it will be a pain to check. I'm willing to but I don't know what I would need to test as far as pins and volts.

Hmm, the person who purchased stated he would be the registered user. Our web-store explicitly asks who will be the registered user, the person it's being billed to, the person it's being shipped to, or a third party, and if you choose a third party, fields appear where you then specify that persons contact info. Moreover, the person who purchased it stated the vehicle he would be using it on was an Audi. So while it may have been given to you, from our point of view, you are not the original owner and not a registered user.

Have you checked ALL the fuses using a meter and verified that none are missing?

I called him and he said he doesn't remember checking anything like that. He said he will give Ross Tech a call after work. The cable is being used for Audi's.

The first thing I did was pull back the wiring cover in the door jam to make sure those wires are ok. Then I looked in the fuse panel on the side of the dash and verified they were all there. I didn't use a meter but I used a test light on both sides of the fuses when able to and also visually inspected them. I will double check the fuses but think there's something else going on. Would the steering wheel sensor have anything to do with the electrical problems?

This is the I will be the registered user. area when placing an order.

The missing 46-Central Conv. module is located under the carpet and that controller / related wiring (including splices under the taped harness) is typically damaged due to water leaks. The 1998-2005 VW Passat and all similar Audi A4 models have the same noted issues - but this one doesn't have a roof (at least not a hard one) so water leaks are more common. It looks like address 26-Automatic Roof is offline as well, and those are both on the comfort bus, but that module and related wiring also corrode. I believe 26 is in one of the rear 1/4 panels but I don't recall which side without digging.

Checking the fuses per the repair manual and wiring diagrams is a good start and that may resolve the issue - but you will need to access each of the modules that aren't communicating in this vehicle to check the wiring and power/ground directly at some point.

Thanks Dana,

I already checked the ccm and wiring. There actually isn't any splices (to my surprise) on mine in the area they normally corrode. Believe me I took it apart twice to double check and the second time I removed the seat and everything to have more access. The weird thing is the ccm communicates when the tow button on the door is selected. I didnt realize the roof one wasnt communicating although I did grab one when at the junk yard. Its under the passanger side rear side panel. Ill check if the tow option alters the communication with that.

The dealer told me that all the modules need to be adapted again since the battery got so low. I was considering trying to re-adapt them all myself first. I may just take it into the dealer, if the steering module needs replaced I would like to do that first so they can just match the immoblizer at the same time instead of bringing it back. We'll see what happens when I try to reset this first.

As far as the registration goes I personally didn't order it so I don't know why he selected what he did. Looks pretty clear to me. He said he doesn't even remember selecting the stuff. The only thing I can think of is that he was trying to knock out all of his Christmas shopping and didn't pay attention. Like I said in my first post the Ross Tech cable and support is invaluable. I found out I can just register again so even though its a shame Ill have to pay $100 for something already bought, its not really a huge deal and well worth it. I was afraid I couldnt get any support for it at all. I would just think Ross Tech would be able to see he obviously didn't use it and no accounts have ever been registered in his name.
