Are there any other warning lights one? For example, the ABS or the Airbags?

What do you get when you do [Options] -> [Test]?

So you're telling us you have communications with other systems, just not the TCU?

If so, please post an Auto-Scan.

You may also want to tell us what type of transmission this car has. There were two totally different types installed in these cars. One is a conventional automatic, the other is a CVT.

OK, normally I would ask you if you've verified power, ground, and a clean K-line connection to the TCU, which on the 01J is bolted on the tranny. And if all that is good, I'd say: "Sounds like you need a TCU / mechatronic".

However, the 01J in this 8E chassis (which uses K-line for diagnostics) had some very unusual timing requirements. We have a work-around for this in VCDS for the older interfaces, where such timing is handled in VCDS itself. Now with the HEX-NET you're using, that timing is handled in the interface itself rather than in VCDS, and I'm not sure the exception ever made it into the HEX-NET. So if you like, we'll send you an older interface to try before you condemn the mechatronic.

Old car... With unusual TCM. New interface (HEX-NET)..

I would like to send you an old cable to try. Please confirm your address is the same as it was in 2014.

I don't know that you need any. I just want to be sure your lack of communications with this module isn't due to a known issue we may have overlooked.

Does the other A4 also have a CVT transmission? I know for sure the A8 does not.

It would be best to test for power and ground at the CVT or supply a direct pigtail to isolate power ground and K line.

Please post a picture of the white tag in trunk and a picture of production date in door jam.

Power Terminal 15 PIN 10
Terminal 31 ground PIN 8
K line PIN 6

Is A76 from cluster to T10a/6 merge of K line to J217 okay?
Is ground for F186 T10j/6 for display of gear monitor?

1 Fault Found:

I ordinarily try not to put words in Uwe's mouth, but in this case, I think you may not have clearly understood what he was saying. Ross-Tech aren't asking you to give up your HEX-NET. Just as a test, he's offering to temporarily loan you a different type of interface that's known to work well with your older A4's very unique transmission controller (I would guess a HEX-USB+CAN, or possibly a KII-USB) because he's not sure if the new HEX-NET has been tested to work with it. If a HEX-USB+CAN different interface doesn't work either, then you'll know something is probably wrong with your transmission controller. But if it does work, Ross-Tech knows that HEX-NET may need a minor software fix so it can talk to your TCM, and they can work with you on that.

So, your best course of action is to reply to Uwe's comment asking about your shipping address, so they can help you out.

Jason
