Bizarre, car always starts right up every time.......except today when I received my new vag tool from Ross tech. I ran auto check and cleared up existing faults. I then was inside engine command trying to find misfire location and decided to start car. She started but was very rough, settled down and began to idle properly.

Did I do something wrong by starting car while currently in an engine component of vag tool?

Anyone know how to monitor misfires?

It is always helpful to post an auto-scan.....

Not unless you were performing an ADP during the crank.....were you?

Misfire can be checked in 0x01-08-014 for all ZYL count.

ZYL 123 @ 0x01-08-01
ZYL 345 @ 0x01-08-016 etc etc.....

I suspect this is the 2007 RS4 in the order notes but the scan would be helpful. If that vehicle had fault codes, perhaps misfire in addition to fuel trim problems due to vacuum leaks or similar, clearing faults would clear learned (and possibly corrupted) fuel trims so that may explain the extended crank?

What is adp ?

Again, there were no relevant codes prior to the funny stumble start, and no issues with car at all, however I started car just after cleaning all nav related codes, messing with headlight level learning, etc and was in the process of trying to find cylinder misfire within engine control module.......I think I was within a field where field was showing various engine data when I started it up and had a rough stumble start?

She started up fine after that? No codes?

Here is my first scan of the RS4......car has aftermarket NAV system so you will see a bunch of codes related to that.

The RS was lowered and I have intermittent bouncy headlights......trying to figure out how to calibrate with VAG?

Measuring Blocks 14 through 17 and 19 will show the misfires. The third data set from the left in Block 14 will show total number of misfires. Blocks 15-17 shows misfires on Cylinders 1-8. The Cylinder 1 being the left most on Block 15. The cylinder count increases as you move right through to Block 17. FYI, if you scan a V10 or V12, cylinders 10-12 are on Block 19.

Your going to need this. Link to measuring block list: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/m_blocks/

If your RS has dual ECUs the misfires will be shown in the Engine II module; otherwise, they will be shown in the Engine module.

dafrazi...you are correct....the measuring blocks were not in the Engine module...had to find them in the Engine II......dual ECU's ...oh no.

Couple of questions for the PRO's:

1. The bulb out code for the License Plate, listed above, I have read this cannot be vag'd out? I put in some LED's that were supposed to fix the code? Any input?
2. The VIN discrepancy in the HVAC system? Used part in car? Anyway to rewrite the VIN?
3. The intermittent Cooling fan? Which fan is this and should I plan on replacing it soon? Fault frequency 10? Does this mean its happened 10 times? Reset counter of 255? Whats that mean?

Thanks in advance.

If the vehicle did not come from the factory with LEDs, that's tricky at best.
Has to do with amperage draw of incandescent -v- LED that is measured by the vehicle.

2. The VIN discrepancy in the HVAC system? Used part in car? Anyway to rewrite the VIN?
Lots of info on 01794 on the wiki.

Don't know, but suggest getting a Factory repair manual if you plan to do any amount of DIY.
You've got VCDS so you're already most of the way there
