I just got a 2016 Golf Sportwagen. Twice now when I've accessed the BCM and made adaptation or long coding changes the BCM accepts them, however it causes the key fobs to be forgotten. The immo isn't forgetting them because the car will still start, but the remotes won't work. Then the dealer has to do the relearn for me. Which leads me to ask:
* Is my cable (HexCan) so old I shouldn't be using it with the current VCDS version on this car? Is that what's causing the remotes to be forgotten? I read about the HexNet trade-in program and will do it, but would hope it will solve this issue - I'd be bummed if it didn't. Maybe the car's BCM is the issue...
* The Mk5 and Mk6s had an adaptation channel where you could tell the car how many keys you wanted to adapt and then press the button on the key for the car to relearn them. Is it possible still on a Mk7 and if so, where'd the function go? I can't find it in the BCM.
* Finally, it looks like a label file (? - "no ASAM data" - ?) is missing for the engine so I saved it but I couldn't find where to upload it...

Here's my scan.

I really doubt that, or that upgrading to a HEX-NET would change much.

As I haven't heard of any other reports like this, I have to ask: Exactly what did you change?

There should be a Measuring Value (use the Search) for "Number of transmitters adapted"

Thank you for replying. As far as I recall, I only enabled the comfort open and close. I don't do much (or fancy) with the coding on my cars. I traded a 2015 Golf for this. I had coded it a few times over the year I owned it and never had any issues.

I appreciate you saying the upgrade might not correct this. I suspect the BCM may be the issue because the first repair took the dealer 3 days working with VW to get their computer to talk to it. They could access all the controllers EXCEPT the BCM which caused the delay.

I'll check the measuring blocks to find the number of keys adapted. Thanks for pointing me to that. So that I don't have to go back to the dealer, is there a way to re-adapt the transmitters in the Mk7, like in the Mk6?

Thank you for the great support!

Not sure. All the MQB cars we have access to at the moment have KESSY, meaning the remotes and the keys are matches all at once.

I wonder if they actually need to be re-adapted, or just re-synched. On older cars, there used to be a procedure where you left one key in the ignition (with the ignition ON) then took they other one and locked the car from the outside, and then did some button presses, that would re-synch remotes that were previously adapted.

^^ ^^ Uwe: don't have KESSY, but I did search the term "key" in advanced measurement on the instrument module (hex17) - results below:

Don, I think fro the remote transmitters, the area of interest is the BCM at 09, no?

Yeah the first time it happened I tried the re-synch steps shown in the owner's manual (VW changed the steps from those you describe) - no luck. I also tried this time no luck.

THANK YOU for asking me what I did! You helped me solve it by asking the question.

First, I did the search DV52 showed - thank you for teaching me something new (word search) DV52. I was able to confirm that 2 keys were already adapted, so it wasn't that the controller was "forgetting" them.

The "what did you change" question prompted me to run through the BCM long coding again. The moment I saw the setting for region (NAR or ROW) it dawned on me that different radio frequencies are used in the regions. I changed it back to NAR and the remote transmitters starting working again. In the past, I would always change the region in the Instruments controller so I didn't have to hear the key-in-door chime. Not thinking about it being in the BCM, I changed it there - my error. I guess they built in both antennas in the BCM to cover both frequencies and that setting toggles them... I wanted to mention this for the next poor guy that messes himself up this way.

Thank you guys for supporting me through this, especially since it was not the product - 100% user error.
