I can't figure this out. Original coding of Module [17, Instruments] is 21244. 19244 should disable the chime, but it doesn't go through (im using 8nx-920-xxx-17.lbl file). The code doesn't change, it just goes back to 21244. Is there something i'm missing? Thx.
additional details:
Part no: 8n1 920 980 E

16 + 4 + 1 = 21 which is your original coding.
This suggests to me that the +2 is already lacking, or it would have been 23.

The only way you could get to 19, mathematically, would be:
+1 AWD
+2 Seat belt chime
+16 Secondary display

Post up a full scan and I'll take a deeper look.

Thanks. It is really weird. the seat-belt chime is already active and the code is 21244.

Are you getting any message such as "Out of range" or anything else ?

The only thing I can suggest is change it to 23244, observe any changes, then back to 21244 and observe any changes.

I'll try tonight. No error messages were given when i changed it to 19, though i noticed the code didnt change when i came back to the module screen. I tried changing to 23, which it did. then i came back to 21, but chime was still there. maybe there is an ignition cyle, etc. that i need to do. I will try all combinations tonight. Thanks again.

That cluster uses the old KW1281 protocol; it's not smart enough to be able to say, "Out of range". The only way to tell if a new coding is accepted or rejected is to see if it "sticks".

Exactly, that's what happened. when i put in 19, it didn't stick. Then when i put in 23, it did stick. On its original coding (21) seatbelt chime was present. then on new code (23) it was still there. I'll try tonight with ignition off for few minutes before observing changes. Thx.

Tonight i tried again, but still no changes to seat-belt chime behavior. I started with 21244, then changed it to 23244. Closed all application windows and exited controller and VCDS, then removed key from ignition. did this a few times, changing code between 21244 and 23244. Nothing changes. There is still the chime and seatbelt light illuminates when i unbuckle. I also tied with the German cluster code setting. Miles changed to kilometers (21044), but still chime stayed. Weird. maybe there is a catch somewhere else, or it is not possible with this controller.

Hi,

Can you PM me your full VIN number, that way I can see exactly what equipment is installed.

Thanks,

Hi,

Looks like the coding from the factory would have been [07244]

07xxx equals -
[+01] - All-Wheel-Drive
[+02] - Seat-belt Warning active
[+04] - Manual Transmission
[+00] - NO Navigation (PR code = 7Q0-Without navigation device)

So if you change the coding to [05244] that would eliminate [+02] - Seat-belt Warning active and [+16] - Navigation from your original coding.

Try this coding [05244] and if you are having issues still, have a look at what you have stored in the Adaptations channels [60,61 and 62] and post the results.

Hope this helps,

drp

Awesome! makes a lot of sense. I'll try and report back. I'm not sure why the original coding is off. I promise that I've not altered it and I know that the original Owner didn't even know about possibility programming. I'm the second owner. Thanks again, and i will report back.

I had a issue once on a MKIV, that cluster showed things that are not present. Like seatbelt and brakepads. Coding didn't help, only thing that helped was a battery terminal removal.

Hope this helps somebody.

It worked! Thanks so much DrPeter and everyone that made suggestions. 05244 works to remove the seatbelt chime. It is puzzling to me that Audi would setup original coding off, i.e. to setup with Navigation feature while there is no navigation installed. Glad we have you and a great product like VCDS.
