Looking for ideas from anyone who's run into this before.
Car originally had P0016, P0341, multiple misfires and several other codes. Replaced the timing chain, guides and tensioner. It runs significantly better now and P0341/misfires are gone, but P0016 remains. P0016 was present before the timing job.
What I've checked:
Mechanical timing rechecked:
64 mm head→exhaust mark
125.98 mm cam→cam both in spec.

VCDS chain replacement adaptation/reset completed.
Intake cam specified/actual at idle are both ~0°, but intake phase adaptation stays around +20–21°.
VCDS intake cam adjustment Basic Setting runs at ~1800 RPM but times out.
N205 passes output test and physically moves.
Cam control/spool valve removed — clean and moves freely.
Bearing bridge looks good, although the small oil screen is missing. I'll be looking for the screen/debris before reassembly.
New battery installed; original battery was bad.
Intake phaser was not replaced with the timing set.
Anyone seen P0016 with correct mechanical timing but ~+20° intake phase adaptation on one of these? Wondering about the phaser, missing bridge screen/oil supply, or cam/crank signal/reference issue.

Thanks!

Edit with old man picture of screen that was on my phone until I get somewhere to access my laptop :)

I will bet good money that the vibration dampner is giving a false positive for timing, I would also bet good money dampner is crushed and off alignment marks as this is a common issue often over looked.

I'll put autoscan up when I get to the hotel, I've done a few chains on these on audis and could see how that would happen, awkward to hold and tighten on the transverse layout. I'll check that when I get home on Sunday. Thanks!
