I’m trying to diagnose what seems to be intentionally limited blower output on a 2016 Tiguan S with the manual Climatic HVAC system, and I’m hoping someone familiar with this J301 controller can tell me whether VCDS exposes any coding/adaptation that could change the maximum blower command.
The car has always felt like it does not move enough air, especially on hot days. The A/C itself gets cold, but the cabin takes a long time to cool because the airflow feels weak. I haven't found any consistent complaints about this online. I've posted on VWVortex and some of the comments are that people feel the airflow is adequate. Compared to our two other cars (BMW 328i and L494 Range Rover Sport) it's incredibly weak and takes forever to cool the cabin down.
The HVAC controller is:
Part No: 561 907 426 G
System: AC Manuell
HW: H03
SW: 0506
Coding: 0010001002
ASAM: EV_ACManuaElectGen2BHTC
At the six blower positions, the controller reports approximately:
1: 6.0% / 3.6V
2: 16.8% / 4.6V
3: 27.2% / 5.6V
4: 40.0% / 6.8V
5: 60.8% / 8.8V
6: 74.4% / 10.1V
I confirmed these voltages on my scan tool and with a multmeter.
So far I have:
I also briefly used OBDeleven Pro and was able to run a fresh-air blower output test at 12.0V. At 12V, the blower was noticeably faster and moved significantly more air than it does at the normal position-6 setting. That makes me think the blower motor, J126, wiring, and power supply are all capable of more, and that the normal operating logic in J301 is deliberately capping the blower at 10.1V.
OBDeleven exposed only five bytes of long coding, Bytes 0–4, and provided very little description for them. I also found an adaptation called Application characteristic curves, currently set to:
“Cold tuning, more air, large overshoots heater operation.”
I did not find any obvious adaptation for maximum blower voltage, blower offset, or “hot country.” Does VCDS provide more detailed label data for this specific J301 controller than OBDeleven and are there any known coding bits or adaptations for my hardware that affect maximum blower output?
Is there a known “hot country,” blower-voltage offset, or similar calibration for this controller?
Could the 10.1V / 74.4% ceiling simply be the normal factory maximum for this software version?
I’m considering buying a HEX-V2 specifically to investigate this further, but before I do, I’d like to know whether VCDS actually exposes anything beyond what I was already able to see with OBDeleven (Which I returned and no longer have access to)

So far I have:
- Replaced the cabin air filter
- Had the A/C evacuated and recharged
- Replaced the blower motor with a Valeo/OE unit
- Tried a replacement J126 blower control module
- Inspected the HVAC control panel
- Tested the three potentiometers on the control panel; the blower-speed potentiometer behaved the same as the temperature and air-distribution pots
- Confirmed the controller recognizes all six blower positions
