Cambelt on DFSD engine

Hello. Im gathering tools to together to change cambelt and water pump on vw caddy dfsd maxi 2.0 tdi.
It will be my first time changing a cambelt, was wondering if anyone had done one previously and could offer some advice.

EVERY single bolt and nut you remove is a one time only TTY item so you need to have the engine mount and consul bolts in hand before you start. We would only use the genuine cam belt kit, part number 04L 198 119 K which retails at £228 inc. and water pump, revised number 04L 121 011 N at £159. The belt kit does not come with the tensioner stud N 107 625 01 or relay roller stud N 104 447 02 so I would also order those. Your local VW van centre will be able to supply all these parts and the engine mount bolts to which are VIN specific.

Get onto Erwin and download the engine manual as a minimum as you will need the stepwise sequence and torque settings. There is also a bunch of special tools to lock the crank, cam and fuel pump pulleys. The tools aren't expensive if you don't mind lower quality China crap.

What @Crasher said is very important as well - there are a bunch of 1-time use bolts even for the engine mount and there is a particular sequence to button everything up again correctly. I would also strongly advise against using non genuine parts for that job and whilst you are there it's wise to renew the water pump and it's O-ring etc

Ive found a company online called auto fastners in Warwickshire that can supply hardware for my engine mounts etc.
I changed disc and pads on the rear and they supplied new bolts for the one time use brake carriers.

MY Local TPS Canterbury was fantastic for years. Then out of the blue they wouldn't sell me any thing it's fucking annoying.

ahh yeah there is that massive pain in the hole. Even if TPS would sell him parts they cannot advise on correct process etc. His "local van centre" will be happy to lighten his wallet to the tune of 800 quid or whatever f&ckin ridiculous number they pull out of their hat for a common timing belt replacement.

His local VW Van Centre will charge exactly the same price for the parts as you would pay retail at TPS. The reason the TPS organisation stopped selling to none trade account holders was the number of PITA DIY people who fucked things up, then tried to return the parts they had broken and caused trouble at the counter. Our TPS had one person who got so nasty they had to call the police and now you have to ring the bell to get into reception.

Am I over servicing my vehicle with a ten year internal and 73.000 miles for a cambelt change, Pita DIYer asking.?
