Howdy!

Long time VCDS user, first time caller. Picked up a 2018 Q5 Premium Plus 2 weeks ago and the Lane Assist "feature" is driving me crazy as there is no button on the stalk to turn it off like in every other Audi I've googled in this research process.

I've gone into the A5 module but it's not showing the same options as other resolutions I've found and most forum threads are users trying to enable Lane Assist and not disable. I'm looking to permanantly disable Lane Assist ideally without causing any additional errors.

As far as VCDS goes, I've only used it to perform adaptations and have not used the long coding feature before so apologies and thank you in advance for assistance!

What about the MMI menus?

I've looked at the data for the A5 module and don't see an obvious way there either, although I'll admit there's a bunch of acronyms in the coding that I don't know the meaning of.

Thanks for taking a look Uwe,

I've exhausted every MMI option, it all looks normal compared to other MMIs I've seen from that era, just the EARLY / LATE options in the Lane Assist menu.

I'm thinking this was an early 2018 model that was highly optioned (close to a Prestige) as a Premium Plus but the stalk with the Lane Assist button was somehow missed at the factory and they installed the regular PP+ stalk.

Perhaps I need to retrofit the stalk like in this thread: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/14379/

Or could I uncheck the A5 module from the 'Installation List" without causing further complications?

BIG THANK YOU as Personalization of lane dept. warning Cl. 15 -> not activated is exactly the setting I had been looking for!!

Bad news is even with setting it to "not activated" the Lane Assist comes on once I get over 40mph.

I'm thinking because I don't have the button on the stalk it is defaulting to being ON regardless of the adaptation setting.

Need to go by the dealer anyways so I'm going to ask about it, have also ordered the steering column stalk with the button so hoping I can install that without needing to code it in, we'll see.

My hack for right now is to turn traction control off :cool:

Are you sure the lane assist feature was present from the factory? I know that for some MLBEvo cars, lane assist can be activated trough coding, however without retrofitting a different steering column stalk it can not be deactivated without changing the coding again.

I'm the third owner and got the car 2 weeks ago so that could be the case.

Have a steering column stalk arriving this week and planning on swinging the dealer today/ tomorrow for a few things including this one.

According to the configuration of your car based on the VIN, it does not have lane assist from the factory. That means that a previous owner enabled that without retrofitting the required parts, leading to an 'always on' situation. And they probably also did not properly reconfigure module 5F (the MMI), since you would normally have at least some stuff configurable in the MMI regarding the driver assistance systems, including lane assist.

Also, be aware that the dealer probably cant and/or wont retrofit anything, and their diagnostic equipment will refuse to configure the car in any other way than the stock configuration.

I really appreciate you taking a look and confirming that this was not a factory installed option. I made an appt at the local dealer for this Friday and I'm hoping they can return it to the stock configuration without Lane Assist enabled. Need to get a second key and the MMI has been rebooting so hoping those items can get addressed as well.

Thank you again and will update after the appt. I did order a column stalk with the LA button but looks like I'm better off just returning it as it would needed to be coded in to work with the car.

First thank you to Uwe, sportmotor, and MasterTommy for their assistance with this, good news is the dealer was able to reset the modules that had Lane Assist coded on and it is now completely gone from the Virtual Cockpit and the MMI, they also didn't charge me labor for doing so which was a pleasant surprise. Most likely because I was already forking over $900+ for a second key fob.

Luckily no VCDS adaptions that I had made were affected and my IE stage 1 tune still there. Thanks again VCDS amigos!

Key was $800 to order and then I have to fork over another $325 for programming the new key and removing the lost key. Considering they didnt charge me for resetting the Lane Assist module, I'm looking at it as a one time dealer fee to get it sorted as it should be.

The car drives so much better now without Lane Assist kicking on randomly and freaking me out that it was worth every penny. Loving the adaptations I've done as well, cheers!!!

I still think that's outrageous. A lost key is automatically removed when new and/or existing keys are programmed, and "programming" takes a few minutes. OK, a dealer might have a minimum labor charge of one hour for that. Is their labor rate really $350/hour? I mean, you're in Austin, not the Silicon Valley...

I agree, Austin thinks it is Silicon Valley 2 and the COL reflects that unfortunately, I was told the labor rate was $285 an hour. Took about 30 minutes for programming, paid $325.

I'm just happy I never have to go to the dealer again, my shop is $150 an hour and lets me bring in my own parts from FCP/ECS etc
