HI. I've recently bought VCDS (10vin) HEX-V2. I've followed the instructions and it wont connect to my car. I've installed/uninstalled numerous time but cannot get it to work. My PC is upgraded win 10 to win 11..I've even tried it on an old laptop running win7, Still wont work...In the USB list on device manager i have noticed that the VCDS USB is not there.. I'm now at the point where i dont know what to do to get this working...

Did you turn the ignition to the "ON" position? VIgn. = 0.03V

Be sure the VCDS "plug" DLC is plugged in all the way ; seems to me I remember that , especially in the UK, the OBDII socket can be misaligned in the opening thus preventing the VCDS connation to not be completely connected/seated.

Yes ignition was switched to on, VCDS plug pushed fully in, 2 green lights pulsing from dongle.

Based on you screen-shot, VCDS can clearly see the interface, so that's not your issue.

But your screen-shot also shows Vign and more importantly Vbatt at essentially zero volts. That's not right.

I don't see how you can have two green lights and show no voltage at the diagnostic socket.

Take the HEX-V2. Do not plug it into your PC. Just plug it into your car stand-alone and describe the behavior of the LEDs in that condition.

Plugged the HEX-V2 into the car, Red lights come on then immediately go off, Both green lights come on then change to a sort of greenish yellowish slow flashing lights (both sides)

I suppose color perceptions vary a bit. Steady yellow pulsing on both sides is what I'd expect after the interface has booted up. But no matter, you've proven there's power at the diagnostic socket.

Now do this again. When you then plug the USB end into your PC, the yellow pulsing should change to green. Assuming it does, do [Options] -> [Test] in VCDS again and show us the result.

I think i might have found the problem, Not sure.. When plugging the HEX-V2 directly into my PC the lights flash blue,, But when i plug it into the car i have to use a 5m USB extension cable, When the HEX-V2 is plugged into the extension cable the lights flash red,, Plug into car and the lights turn yellowish green again...The USB extension cable i'm using is of the standard type, Not active, I think it's called. but here is what the PC says when plugged into the car..

So... the first two screenshots were actually with the interface not plugged into the car? :)

An active 5M extension cable (which is essentially a one-port hub) might work, but I think a passive one has close to zero chance.

Can't connect to the car without an extension cable...I have a home PC which is about 5 metres away from the car.. It's not possible to get it any closer.

Oh FFS - buy a cheap laptop.... Oh or does your desktop PC have Wi-Fi that could connect to the VCDS dongle ?
5m range should be no drama in clear air space, but I will let @Uwe and team comment on that more accurately based on their experience & testing.

What we do when testing on desktops is to extend the OBD-II port to our desks. We make those extensions (they're not pretty!) using UTP network cable, which easily works for 30 meters. But getting all the supplies to do that would not be cost effective. If all you need is 5 meters, you can get them off-the-shelf:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AUN6XBG/

Or try an active USB extension:

Thanks for the help today, Really appreciate it...I'm going to have a look at a couple of cable extensions that @Uwe has posted and i'll let you know the result... @nugentp, Yeah my has WI-FI(I think it does) Not sure how i would connect via WI-FI? Would i not need the VCDS Pro version which is WI-FI connected instead of cable?

Oh mine is a HEXNET Wi-Fi - my bad and hadn't remembered that Wi-Fi doesn't come will all VCDS interface types. I think Uwe's suggestion of the 5m OBD port extender is the path of least resistance (no pun intended).

Just a quick update. bought an OBD-II extension cable(5m) and now everything works.. Tried to switch off the stupid cornering fogs that we have here in UK but it just says not accessible ''refer to manual'' .. So got some reading up to do first...But thanks again guys for the help.
