2012 Audi R8 Spyder convertible top help

Hello all,

I have a client here with a 2012 Audi R8 and the convertible top is not happy. He opened it, and it would not close. The cluster would give the "Convertible top not working" or whatever generic warning.

Upon scanning, the Auto top shows no codes, but if I look at the switch list, I see one is showing a fault. I can't find anything online when searching for the numbers associated with the fault.

Here's a full auto scan, and also a separate listing of the switch at fault. I have found that the rear window/windbreak won't roll up. At this point, I am assuming there's maybe an issue with the actual window switch in the center console.

Thoughts before I start tearing everything apart?

This is exactly what I was trying to learn, thank you! I've got as many diagrams as Motologic will allow me, and found that picture. I just wasn't sure *which* switch I should be looking at. I pulled the one from the center console and tested it. That one is fine. I knew at that point, it was going to be one of the ones on the window assembly itself. I am not looking forward to pulling that assembly out.

Ok, so I got this car torn down and the window assembly out. The pictures on all the service material (same as the one you posted) shows switches on either side. This car has them both, side by side, in the #1 position.

Mind you, these aren't physical micro switches with moving parts, but rather appear to be magnetic style switches that, when the window is rolled up, #1 has no interaction with anything metal. #1 switch doesn't interact with metal until at the bottom of rolling the window down. Inside, there's a riveted in steel plate that comes within millimeters of the switch.

As for the second switch next to it, it interacts with a steel plate about halfway inside the assembly. I'm going to assume this is my "middle switch". The plate of metal for these switches is basically shaped like a low/hi bar graph with the bars side by side.

Now, both switches also use red/black wires, so I am unable to determine which is which at the exterior plug, but I can tell you that one output has consistent resistance throughout the range of rolling up & down. The other one shows resistance, then no continuity and bounces back and forth throughout rolling the window up & down.

So at this point, I'll pull the glass panel out and that will give me the room I need to work. I'll remove the sensors and start doing some testing to see if there's a broken wire or something.

Got this thing all back together enough to test it and the stop still won't function. Now I'm showing a malfunction for IDE02664-MAS02273 Switch for folding top - Convertible top compartment - open - switch (because why wouldn't I?!)

Looks like the F407 switch. Now to locate that one and figure out its deal.

I found F407. It's on the let side hydraulic ram for the clamshell top cover. More broken wires from fatigue.
