NAR '19 Mk7.5 Golf R: Rear Intermittent Wiper Frequency Adjustment or Rain Sensor Control?

I've noticed that if I shut the car off with my rear wiper switched on, on the next ignition cycle, it won't actually be on, until the rain sensor gets triggered, or I toggle the switch again. (Which I find desirable!)

I've also noticed, that when the rain sensor is triggered, and I go into reverse, it will wipe the rear window once, although the rear wiper switch is off. (I know this is a setting in the infotainment screen, but I've also noticed it doesn't always happen, even though it's set, and only seems to happen when it's raining.)

This has made me wonder: Can I somehow adjust the frequency at which the rear wiper wipes? Could I make it stop cycling if it's left on and it's not raining?

I would love if the frequency of the rear wiper was also adjusted by intermittent wiper adjustment/auto wiper sensitivity switch, or if it just reacted to the Rain sensor, the way the front wipers do, and stopped a few minutes after the sensor stopped detecting rain.

Really, any adjustment at all on this would be interesting to know about... Even if it's just changing the base frequency.

Ideally, if it could wipe three or four times when initially switched on, and then park itself if the rain sensor isn't seeing any rain, and start up again when it starts raining again.

Is any of this or anything even slightly related possible?

I know you can use VCDS to enable wiping the rear window a few minutes after using the rear washer to catch any drips. I really hoping there is more customization hidden there.

Only about 100,000km. more, and the haldex that was replaced under warranty. No firmware updates or anything like that, that I'm aware of. Definately no module replacements.

The problem is my VCDS machine is an air-gapped Windows XP based Snap-On Verus Pro… Getting files in and out of that thing is a pain and a risk, because that thing is infested with so many viruses due to it's lack of security and age. Can I somehow adjust the frequency at which the rear wiper wipes? Could I make it stop cycling if it's left on and it's not raining?

There should be a number of Adaptation channels in your BCM (Address 09) that you can find by putting Rear wiper in the search/filter box.

Last time I plugged a USB drive into that thing, it put the conficker virus on it.

I'm reasonably sure I've addressed all the viruses on that thing, but I generally try to avoid connecting it to anything else.

If I had another Windows laptop, I'd just use that, but I only have one usable Windows machine right now… Unless you guys have tips for running VCDS on Linux?

Do we know what the difference would be between two pause time level 1 and 2? Or do I just need to try it and see what happens?

Also, the menu option, I assume that would need a modification in the infotainment for that option to show up too? or does Menu have a different meaning in German?

Hmm, none of the settings seem to make an appreciable difference.

I even tried cycling the key and checking the soft reset option.

Leads me to believe it's either not doing what i think it's supposed to be doing, or perhaps the setting doesn't work?

I couldn't even get the interval to change.

Maybe I didn't wait long enough between key cycles?

There should be a checkbox at the bottom of the coding and adaption windows that allows you to reboot a module immediately. I forget what it says exactly, but it should be obvious. Otherwise, you have to wait ~30 minutes or so for your car's modules to fully "go to sleep" before most config changes will actually apply.

Yeah, that's the Soft Reset check box that I mentioned. Still no luck. it's possible I'm doing something wrong, or it's also possible to setting I'm changing isn't the setting I think I'm changing.

yeah, definitely possible. I did notice that there was a setting to change between a regular 12v wiper or an intelligently controlled one, and intelligent control option was what was selected by default. I don't remember the exact wording.

But yeah, these modules are made for millions of different cars, so chances are, they have settings for a car that has nothing to do with the car that I have. also, there's a real possibility that this setting is for something completely different from what it seems, or dependent on another setting that hasn't been changed. IDK?
