VCDS update pop-up window

Since for the life of me, cannot find an SFD vehicle to beta test with, at least some small, minor feedback to VCDS software in general:

when there is an update offered, by a pop-up window, if I am in a rush for a scan, I click Cancel button and do the job. Next time I open VCDS to update, the pop-up window is no longer shown. I know it might be annoying for some, but for me, it would save some more clicks to go to the website for download.

What are other's opinion on this matter?

Good. That is what I would do too in such a case.

Next time I open VCDS to update, the pop-up window is no longer shown.

When is "the next time"? We don't want to nag busy users every time they start VCDS, so VCDS will wait ~24h before it reminds you about the update again. It has worked like that since we first implemented "automatic" updates in 2007.

Next time is when I finish diag, say 10 to 20 minutes later, is still fresh in my mind that there is an update. I did not know about the 24h re-offer, it does not sound bad either.

How does vcds do the check for updates? It popped up for me without starting the program. Is there a script that runs on windows startup?

Not exactly a script. By default, there's a shortcut to VCDS.EXE with the parameter Update in your Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ folder. I believe the shortcut is called RT-Updater. We did this ages ago because some users were starting VCDS when they didn't have an internet connection, e.g. sitting in a car, out of range of their WiFi connection, and complained that it never prompted them to update. You can easily remove this if you wish.

Of course you can also set VCDS to "Do not check for updates" (on the [Options screen], under the 'User Interface and Identification' tab) if you don't want it to check for updates at all.
