I’m trying to diagnose a no-start issue on my Golf 5 1.6 FSI (engine code BLP) and would appreciate some input from anyone familiar with this fuel system.
The car was running normally when I accidentally removed fuse #20 (ABS, 5A) while the engine was running. The engine shut down, and since then it cranks but will not start.
Symptoms:
Engine cranks but does not start
EPC light stays on
ESP/steering warning lights appear
ABS module communicates normally now
Immobilizer is OK in VCDS
Engine speed shows around 300 RPM while cranking
VCDS faults:
18726 – Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276)
P2294 – Open Circuit
16475 – Valve for Fuel Metering (N290)
P0091 – Short to Ground
Tests performed:
ABS module communication checked — OK
Relay 458 checked — appears OK
Unplugging N276 gives P2294 (open circuit)
Plugging N276 back in causes P0091 (short to ground) to return immediately
At this point I’m unsure whether I’m dealing with:
A failed N276 valve / high-pressure fuel pump issue, or
A wiring, power supply, relay, or ECU-related issue caused by the fuse being removed while the engine was running.
The timing makes me suspect an electrical issue, but I don’t want to replace the HPFP without confirming.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue on the 1.6 FSI BLP or have suggestions on what I should test next?
