Someone probably programmed your Instrument, so there is no correct ASAM filename anymore.
Fix that and service should work.
We think this typically happens when somebody "clocks" (manipulates the odometer) of an instrument cluster using certain unauthorized tools.

In any case, it is not a problem with VCDS.

I'm not sure about that—car is used from carseller. The “2-3” light was still on on the dashboard; someone had apparently tried to pair three immobilizer keys but only had two, which I fixed using ODIS. I also tried the dashboard, but ODIS just changed the coding—nothing else. So how do I fix the faulty ASAM? I used ODIS with an online connection

I'm not sure if there are any other modules in this very basic 2012 car that would keep track of mileage?

Do you mean the MVB for all units?
Yes, I think that's what he means.
