New Battery Registration -- 2026 VW Jetta GLI

I'm not sure this is an SFD issue, but...

I just got a new 2026 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. I'm coming from two 2009 Mk5s, and have been an authorized VCDS user since that year; but I just upgraded to HEX-VW Enthusiast, and am experimenting as to what I can and can't do with it on the new GLI.

I'm aware generally of the protections that VW has introduced since 2009 -- the hood-open requirement in about 2015, and more-recently SDF and SDF2.

I won't need to replace the battery until three years from now, but I'm trying to see whether VCDS will allow me to register or do an adaptation on the new battery when the time comes.

My Battery Monitoring Control Module is a subsystem of the CAN Gateway:



But when I open the 19-CAN Gateway module and press the Adaptation button, I get this error about the diagnostics firewall being on, and that I should open my hood:



Hood is open. Ignition is on; I've tried with engine both on and off.

This error appears whenever I do anything that even looks like I'm trying to modify or adapt something.

I might add that I also have the Carista diagnostics tool; and it seems to allow me to register a new battery without any firewall issues...

Oh, here's a complete Autoscan, if it will help. I've got a question on that too... Why is VCDS unsuccessfully trying to connect to BB-Door Rear Drv and BC-Door Rear Pass, when they're respectively sub-systems of Address 42: Door Elect, Driver and Address 52: Door Elect, Pass.? BB and BC aren't checked on the Installation List:

You're using Release 26.3, which does not yet support on-line SFD.

VW has gotten bit weird with newer cars. Instead of a single, unified Installation List in the Gateway, there are now additional installation lists lurking in other modules. Just ignore BB and BC.

Yes, I saw that info regarding Beta SFD feedback. But I understood it to only be open to "those who purchased unlimited VIN ('Professional') VCDS. Is that incorrect? Mine is merely "Enthusiast"...

VW has gotten bit weird with newer cars. Instead of a single, unified Installation List in the Gateway, there are now additional installation lists lurking in other modules. Just ignore BB and BC.

If you were needing to swap out your battery now, you could do it now with the Beta version, but there are certain requirements to get that. Again, see the "sticky" threads.

So what's the drill now? I just start playing around with the Beta, and give you guys any feedback as to functionality and/or ease of use?

I see you want a separate thread for each vehicle. Can I just give you feedback int his thread, or do I need to start a new one?

I've now got two VCDS icons on my laptop; one for the "normal" VCDS (currently v.23.11), and one for the Beta (v.26.7). If I need to do work on my wife's 2009 Mk5 Jetta, will the Beta work on that too? Or do I need to use the v.23.11?

Finally, regarding feedback... I understand it's tough to design guidance, including for signing up for this Beta. But I found it more than a bit confusing. And I see that others currently also seem to be confused. Information was scattered across more than one thread and Ross-Tech page; and I never did see the requirement that you need a complete scan from the Beta version too.

I'd suggest a single sticky on this sub-forum, clearly titled as the place to start. Then include all the necessary info and links in that sticky, in order. Like, that YouTube video was enormously helpful, to a point.

Sorry, I don't know where I saw 23.11. You're right; the current "normal" version on my laptop is 26.3.

Will the Beta version also prompt me to update, when I open it up after an update is fielded?

Yeah, I'd think it would be tough to write good guidance like this. For anyone. I spent five years writing operational intelligence guidance for DoD, and I know how tough it was for me/us... More times than I care to think, no matter how perfectly clear and unambiguous a piece of guidance was, there was always someone out there in DoD that misunderstood it...

I can only speak for myself. I finally figured it all out, but not without several bits of help from you (thanks again); and having to go back and forth from the video, to your forum post, to the web page.

Like I said, I must have missed the guidance where I needed to post another Auto Scan using the Beta, when I'd already done so with the 26.3...
