Coding for power steering control module

[julzdad]

Trying to program power steering control module to my car. 2016 Audi Q5 2.0t. I bought the car and the steering didn't work. Won't steer. Took module off and it was full of water. Bought a replacement off of ebay
all the numbers match except for the last letter. When i get to the long code helper I get message saying For my safety list of coding options incomplete, contact the person you bought from etc etc. My question is where
do I get the code for the new Power steering control module? can I get code from the old one even though it was full of water? appreciate any help.

Not trying to be a dick, but if you have water in the module, why did you think this was going to fix the issue? If you have water in the module it means you have water in the entire rack. Judging by the faults you've got that rack was NFG before you even changed the module. So rack is fucked. Get a NEW rack.

Are you ready for the kicker? This vehicle had a factory warranty extension and was eligible for a FREEEEEEE!!! Rack replacement under the U45 warranty extension of 10years or 125k miles. Womp, womp,womp...... 10years passed on 03.26.2026. Therefore it is no longer eligible for coverage.

I just bought it. I read that the module could be replaced after water damage. I don't know much about these cars. I did know about the 10 year deal, though. So when replacing the rack do I need to find one with the same module number or any rack and module will do? Thanks for your help.

The temperature and position sensor errors are not normal and I don't
believe that will be resolved via coding alone.  You can try coding it
to: 100000000000

... but if that's rejected please let us know if the entire steering
rack was replaced with the control module and what type of vehicle the
used part came from.  At a glance it appears to be from a (somewhat
rare) Q5/SQ5 with 3.0TDI engine so there may be compatibility issues.

In conclusion, I agree with the advice in forum but I suspect the diagnostic capable control (J500) that was installed came from a different car type and the steering rack itself was damaged due to the water ingress. Those components are not sold separately so it would be best to install the current day direct replacement as an entire steering rack assembly.

I did see your email and thanks for the response. I have ordered steering rack as a whole unit. I assume I will still have to program to my vehicle once installed. My question is where do I find the code for that? Do I need to take it from the original rack/pwcm?

is for changing the entire rack only.

So I purchased a used unit(12 month warranty). Actually super simple to change out. alignment must be done after swap out.
After replacing I was getting the "steering end stops not learned". Nothing really needs coded. This
is what I had to do to get rid of the steering end code.

1. start vcds
2. select 44 steering assist
3.Go to Security Access - 16 and enter the code provided in the VCDS pop-up balloon to unlock basic settings. Click [Do it!].
4.open basic settings 04
5.From the drop-down menu, select resetting of learned values for steering system. then click go
6.Then it should say finished correctly.
7. close vcds
8. start car, turn all the way to right till you hear a beep, then turn all the way to the left till you hear a beep, then center, and code will go away.

will do. herniated disc right now so I'm moving slow. quick question. can you tell if transmission is shot from scan? I have s5 that was stolen and blown up. I know the engine is shot, but not sure about the transmission.

There weren't any fault codes in address 02-Auto Trans back on July 11th so we may be able to tell more in the new scan. Generally speaking the 0BK (ZF 8HP55AF) is a robust slush box (torque converter) transmission that is not known for failure.

The S4/S5 and similar from this B8/B8.5 era was an entirely different story. Those are the DSG/S-Tronic transmissions and major failures can start in the 60 - 80K mile range. There's a wall of TSBs on this page about that unit:

It's a different car. The engine is locked and most definitely will be replaced(1 of the pistons is no longer there). Just wondering if transmission should be replaced as well. I try to scan that one tomorrow and the post the q5 as well. Thank you for your help. I'll also read the post should be informative
