2010 VW Golf ABS module - no communication

Hi all, I’m a new user here and I was really hoping I could get some help. I have a 2010 VW Golf GTI with a faulty ABS module (1K0907379AM) that has multiple lost communication fault codes, U0121, P1851 & P1689 among many others. I sent the unit for repair but it has come back as unrepairable.

I have been told that because the unit is not communicating that coding a new unit is not straight forward and I would need the vehicles long code.

I would like to understand more about the steps needed to repair the car as I am only receiving partial bits of information that seem to contradict each other.

If the unit will not communicate and I need the cars long code to be able to fit a replacement unit, would that not mean that the long code is visible somewhere within the cars ODB diagnostics system to be able to change this code in the first place as I can imagine the ABS module is not the only system that requires this code to function?

If I were to obtain the long code is this all that is required to code a replacement unit to the car? Or are there other codes needed as well?

If I were to buy a reconditioned unit how difficult would it be to code it to my car?

If I fit the replacement unit to my car (as I would need brakes to be able to move/drive it) would there be an issue with plugging the replacement module into the car or would it just show the same faults it currently shows and essentially still drive just without ABS? If not, could I fit the new unit (bleed the brakes etc) and essentially just plug the old module in so it reads this instead of the replacement one but I would still have my brake system going through the pump to be able to drive it to a garage?

Are there any tools available for me to be able to read the long code myself?

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I bought this car nearly 2 months ago and I haven’t even used it yet.

Hi, apologies I should clarify I don’t own a VCDS, I would be more than happy to buy one if that’s the route I need to take to get my car back on the road. I was hoping for some guidance on - can a VCDS generate a long code? Or is anyone able to help me with this? Would a second hand unit be able to be recoded to suit my car

VCDS doesn't generate the code, but some of the members here can.

HI all,

I have now purchased a VCDS HEX-V2, i've registered the product and entered the serial number (it is the H**-****** number isn't it?) into my account details on here but i'm not sure how I am then to become a verified member?

Anyway, there have been a few developments with this issue, I recently contacted VW to confirm what part numbers I could use for a replacement ABS pump/module, after some digging I was put through to technical support to identify what part numbers were fitted to the car from factory. The numbers they gave me don't match the part number of the faulty unit I removed from my car. I'm suspecting someone has tried an easy fix for this car and fitted the wrong part number ABS pump/module.

I have run the auto-scan on my VCDS so I was hoping firstly if someone be so kind as to help me generate the long code?

Hi all,

An update on this, I have been advised to upgrade my unit to a hardware 46 module, which uses a 20 byte long code. With my auto scan data and this information is anyone able to generate me a long code? Willing to pay obviously just getting desperate to get this car on the road now, bought it nearly 2 months ago for my wife and just had no end of issues with it
