tl;dr -- Starting June 1st, we will only accept SFD Service orders from customers with systems that are eligible for a free year of SFD, in other words those who purchased unlimited VIN ("Professional") systems since the beginning of 2023.
"When you make something free, you create an unlimited demand for that thing."
Folks, as of this writing, we have close to 900 people who have signed up for the free SFD Beta, but most of them have not even tried to start an SFD session, much less requested a token, and the amount of feedback we've received from individual users has been negligible. As evidence for the latter point, look at how few threads exist in this section of the forum.
That said, it's a heck of a lot of work to process these orders; ID verification, checking that the firmware in the interface is up-to-date, etc, etc. What this has helped us with is to streamline the processes somewhat, and to find a few issues here and there; mainly firmware and password-handling related. We've still got more to do along those lines, but we're not going to to keep processing free orders for people who can't be bothered to actually do what a Beta is all about, which is to test the new functionality.
We're also not quite ready to make this a full Release and start charging subscription fees. We hope to be at that point sometime in July. So starting June 1, we will only accept SFD service orders from people who we "owe" a free year to anyway.
If you're reading this before June 1, and you want to get free SFD service but haven't signed up yet, get your act in gear and place an order. See THIS THREAD for instructions.
If you're reading this after June 1 and don't qualify for a free year but you have a genuine need for SFD and are willing to provide feedback in the the form of scans and logs, please start a new thread in this section with a complete Auto-Scan made with the latest Beta version of VCDS from a car that has SFD and we'll consider an exception.
