I thought it might be interesting to have a thread dedicated to photos/images that you saw online (or elsewhere) that you felt worthy of passing on to others here at Uwe's Bar. Uwe can set the rules or simply close this thread at his or his team's discretion. Perhaps photos submitted should be limited in quantity to one per day, and represent something or someone that made a memorable impression on you.

There's already a "Random Photos" thread here at the Bar, and is limited to Original Pics only, i.e., ones that you yourself took. The Coolest Photo thread is intended for those of is who lack the talent for taking fantastic photos but want to share ones we feel others will appreciate!

That said, here's the photo that really grabbed my attention today. I saw it on the Daily Timewaster website. It was a shot of a B1 Bomber, and was simply labelled as "Thrust". You can almost hear the roar and feel the heat.

Along the same lines as above. I guess hot things can be cool!

The small fishing town of Ísafjörður in Iceland unveiled the first ever "3D crosswalk" in Iceland. The crosswalk, which is painted to look like it is hovering over the street, is intended to slow down traffic and reduce driving speeds in the narrow residential streets of the old town of Ísafjörður.

Spotted this story on the justacarguy blog today. Guy is driving on I-84 outside Boise, sunroof wide open, when the unexpected happened. An eagle dropped a 14" trout right into the car! What are the chances?!!! Also, his dashcam caught the whole thing: the shadow, the drop, the screaming. Fish and Game verified the footage.

Something seems fishy here!

^^^ That's wild.

Obviously AI generated, so not actually a photo. Look closely at the car that ends up becoming the left eye.

Oh, and interestingly enough, the effect is easier if I look over my glasses than through them.

It also pops out way more when viewing on a small phone screen vs a desktop monitor... I seen it last night on my phone and am looking at it on my workstation right now.... very different.

I dunno; these days you can get a 30" 4K monitor for less than most phones cost.

-Uwe-
I should probably upgrade my monitors since I've not been burned by not properly reading posts 2x in the last 24hrs or so :banghead:

I'm blaming multitasking and spreading myself too thin.... that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The Door to Hell, Turkmenistan. In 1971, Soviet scientists set fire to a crater to stop methane gas from spreading, expecting it to burn for just a few days. But it’s been burning for more than 53 years.

(Also spotted the above on the Daily Timewaster blog website)

One commenter there suggested it was burning low grade coal with lots of fines in it.
