The following repairs have been made, all with OE parts from the dealer

1. Replaced a faulty reductant pump. (Pump was not building pressure, 30hpa. I have 5000hpa with the new pump)
2. Replaced the EGR cooler. (P0401 no longer sets after multiple test drives)
3. Drained and filled SCR tank with Ad blue from the dealer

After those 3 repairs, I performed the following:

-SCR metering quantity test. (Filled my measuring cup to 30ml)
-Resetting of SCR tank level detection
-Reset SCR lock
-Resetting of learning values for reductant agent metering system
-SCR efficiency test

The problem I am having is I cannot get the LTA for reductant dosing to reset. Looking through other posts I believe this number should be at 1. This car is at 4.16 which I believe is way too high. I've taken it for multiple, long test drives (50+ miles) at steady cruise on the freeway.

Some data I observed while testing:

-During SCR efficiency test:
Reductant injector activation 6-9% (would cycle from 0 to 6-9%)
Reductant pump pressure 5000hpa
SCR catalyst temp 290-310C
Nox1-290ppm
Nox2-50ppm


-During long test drive on freeway (steady cruise):
Reductant injector activation 0-70% (would usually cycle from 0-10% but would go up to 70% depending on throttle)
Reductant pump pressure 5000hpa
SCR catalyst temp 310C
Nox1- 80ppm
Nox2- 300 to 400ppm

After seeing the Nox readings on my multiple test drives I decided to install a new rear Nox sensor (OE from the dealer). Pretty much the same Nox readings as previous test drives, and the LTA for reductant dosing does not get much better. I'm thinking the SCR catalyst is bad??? Not sure of a good way to prove it, or if there is something else I'm missing...

Side note:
The customer has a obd2 code reader sitting on the seat. I did find out by just checking for DTCs, the SCR lock will reset. Thinking maybe that is how they were "getting by" for awhile. Possibly damaged the SCR catalyst? Or skewed the adaptions so badly they cannot be reset?

I don't see how a bad SCR CAT can possibly increase NOx from 80 to 300-400.

Any chance the connections are reversed and the ECU is seeing 1 as 2 and vice-versa? I don't know if this is physically possible with those, but we've seen it happen with oxygen (lambda) sensors.

Easy way to resolve that is unplug one at a time - Look for DTC and Live Data

Thanks for the reply, Uwe.

Not possible to have them switched. Different part #'s and they are pretty far away from each other. Nox 1 is located right behind the turbo, under the hood. Nox 2 is located pretty far behind the SCR catalyst, underneath the car. I did look into doing some "swapnostics" before I pulled the trigger on replacing the rear, but found out they are different part #'s.

I believe the elevated rear Nox numbers are the whole issue on why it won't pass readiness. But, also, not sure why rear Nox numbers are elevated. Possibly Nox 1 is reading incorrectly? Nox 1 will read as high as 1650ppm at times, like under heavy throttle, but will settle in around 80-100ppm at steady cruise on the highway. Rear Nox stays high and doesn't seem to react as quickly as it should, hence the reason I replaced it.

I might pull the front Nox out on Monday and visually inspect for soot build-up. The EGR cooler was pretty nasty.

These codes will not clear. They will set KOEO. I believe they will not clear until LTA of the reductant system is at 1. Which I have not been able to reset in basic settings.

I've tried the following procedure (multiple times) with no success.

1. Security Access type in 27971 hit GO. Access is accepted
2. Basic Settings- Resetting of SCR tank level detection. Test completed ok
3. Basic Settings- Reset SCR lock. Test completed ok
4. Basic Settings- Resetting of learning values for reductant agent metering system Test completed routine NOT OK

Not sure why I can't reset the learnt values for the reductant agent metering system...

Also, should mention I did a oil/filter change and replaced the oil cooler/cooler plate seals during the EGR cooler job.

Update, I believe this car is fixed!!!

Here is the procedure to reset the LTA for reductant dosing:
-Warm engine to operating temp
-Basic Settings- Reset learned values quant. meter. unit and press. contr. valve. Hit GO test completed ok
-Basic Settings- Reset learning values for reduction agent metering system. Hit Go test completed/routine not ok
-Basic Settings- Checking reduction medium quality. Hit Go, Parking brake engaged, Hold brake and accel pedal. RPM's will elevate to 2000. Test will take at least 30 mins. LTA for reductant dosing will set to 1.25 and should update by the end of the test.

After the test is done DTC's will change to intermittent and can be cleared. (along with the death countdown)

Test drive on the freeway for at least 30 miles and see what LTA adapts to. Mine adapted to .98 which is within the .9 to 1.1 range. Rear Nox levels were what they should be usually half of what Nox 1 was reading.

I also removed the SCR catalyst from the vehicle and found a large chunk of crystalized def taking up about a 1/4 of the inlet pipe, right at the gasket, about a foot away from the injector. Possibly restricting def from entering the SCR catalyst properly???

Thank you all for your input. I really hope this can help someone else in the future!!!
