Battery coding

Hi,

The car battery to be installed should arrive tomorrow - It may not be the best! but hopefully it'll be OK - It is a Yuasa YBX3110 - I've researched / found the procedure to code the battery from within the VCDS software so I'm not asking about the whole procedure, just part of it for when it is time to code it.

Battery Adaptation Manufacturer, shows 3 digits for this - What would be the best or appropraite value to insert as the stored value?

I'm just prepping for the eventual coding - Thank you.

EDIT - I've seen an option for "unknown" ?

From what I have read here in the past (and what I have done on a 2009 B8 S5) with this procedure, is be sure all battery data is the same or very close to what was originally present (CC Amps and Ah for example). That way you can just leave the current data in those fields.

But, the serial number is what indicates to the vehicle that the battery was changed. So, if you change the SN by one digit all should be accepted.

I'm well aware of them, just trying to understand why someone who's never heard of brand proceeds to buy it, only to then mention that they've never heard of it. Why bring it up?
The brand is very popular in motorcycles, atvs, etc.

OK - But if the manufacturer is different lets say EXIDE is the old battery with the TU3 inside VCDS and along comes new battery that is not EXIDE - Are you suggesting leaving TU3 in place?

The new battery is 760A CCA - The old one was 640A CCA - Does VCDS have a field for this data to be input?.

I'll find out when I connect it all to the car but am just trying to prepare mentally for the task to attempt to ensure a good outcome

Please post a complete Auto-Scan so the forum can see what module and vehicle you are asking about.

Yes, it should.

Since your new specifications are different, yes, you will need to enter the new data. First, you should find out what the vehicle had originally , what specifications. It sounds like you are Increasing battery capabilities.

Note: The Serial number change , that I mentioned above, is only recommended if you are replacing the battery with the oem specs. And, that is what is presently in the vehicle. That is why I mentioned you should first determine what the factory originally specified in this vehicle.

Also, per your screen shot..... don't you think it is time for a update!

The aspect I've already looked at is 19 - The CAN gateway. It appears there are more aspects to this as well so I'll play the video several times - Thanks

The video link is very useful and will be referenced when needed to input the data into the appropriate "address" numbers within VCDS

OK - I've got the new battery which does have a QR code but there is not BEM code - There is a serial number for the battery - but no vendor code or BEM code that can be seen but I'll check it again. What is the best course of action for VCDS with reference to not having a BEM code and no vendor code - Is it alright to select "unknown" for battery manufacturer?

Hi - An Autoscan will be done but this is not possible right now due to having a dead battery. I've bought a HEX V2 USB - Never used one yet - but am learning quite quickly - The battery needs to be installed and coded as well as possible - Surely you can see the difficulty with this situation where you wish to prevent people from posting - The car is without power - You must know Autoscan is not possible right now but will be when this is accomplished - Thank you for your understanding [hopefully]

It's not a question whether VCDS has a field for something; it's a question whether the control module has a field for it.

But the answer is: No. The CCA rating is not something the BMS in these cars cares about. It cares about capacity (Amp-hours) and possibly the type of battery (flooded vs EFB vs AGM etc.). The manufacturer code has no functional effect on anything. The serial number also has no functional effect, except that when you change it, the BMS takes that to mean you've installed a new battery.

Hi,

I got the new battery put in and there is power to the car so this part of the procedure has gone quite well considering. Also I've attached a charger to keep the battery charged.

I've performed a system Autoscan:

It has been notcied within the directory C:/ Ross-Tech / VCDS - within the main application folder there is a logs folder pertaining the Autoscan. Also there is another folder for Scans - Each of these folders contains a text file that must have been produced by the Autoscan itself.

I did have a look at coding something but the appearance of the available modules looked a little different or one or two items may have been missing [possibly] but at this point my brain freezes over with the newness of this and the risk of making a bad mistake so I backed off.

Do you wish me to upload those text files here? - or something else.

Nutshell is the car was without power so all sytems may be reset and there are error codes galore.

The new battery is in - This is an achievement in itself! - But there is more to do - And I'll wait to hear back here before proceeding - Thanks

Do a full auto scan, save it as a .txt file and copy/paste it. Then do a full CAN clear and re-read. If any red lines come back, go into the controller and manually clear the codes. Then go back to the auto scan screen and do a full scan again, if anything thing comes back, save and post the scan. Have you done the battery coding in the CAN BUS? There is no manufacturer code for Yuasa, just use JCB or VAO. Include the VIN.

Hi Uwe and all - The engine started, was left on for a little while then put back. The petrol cap opens from the inside - The boot opens from the inside - The keyfob remote doesn't work but did a few years back. I've put all the Autoscan in code brackets - I hope this is correctly done.

I've not coded anything for the battery yet - I went to have a look for a certain layout but when I got onto the screen one of the option boxes was missing - Right now my brains frozen a little bit because there are many errors - but lets look at the positive, a new battery is installed and the car started - so thats gotta be progress! - But what to do next well - I'm not sure! EDIT - The battery has a charger connected just in case there are any power sapping activities going on! -

EDIT - If I remember correctly - There was an adaptation box [10] that was expected to be seen in VCDS but was absent - I did watch the video for battery engine management - three components within VCDS, one of which is stand alone whilst the other two are found at address 19 The Can Gateway -

Here in the Uk Yuasa are a known brand and considered a premium product. Certainly not a bad battery !
