Did it crash? Apparently not.

What happens in an older car that has no autonomous capabilities when the driver falls asleep at the wheel? Oh, right, it crashes. In fact, this happens close to 100,000 times each year, resulting in over 5000 deaths.

Now I'll grant you, the car should have detected the problem with its driver and found a safe place to pull over and stop rather continuing on.

We don't know if it crashed but we know there were two children in the back seat...

It certainly appears from the numerous photos online that FSD (which actually is not true FSD), encourages dangerous and irresponsible behavior by some folks. I don't see that as a "positive" for public safety.

People who use "FSD (Supervised)" claim it's more relaxing than hand-driving all the time. Honestly, it should just be called "Autopilot", because it's more akin to the autopilot functions of a modern airplane. Those are capable of flying an airplane, but are supposed to be monitored, with human pilot(s) ready to take over at any time.

Teslas certainly do have a very keen "Driver assistance" system with cameras pointing in every direction and a computer capable of evaluating traffic and other things constantly with a full 360 degree field of view, something that human vision is simply not capable of. That computer also doesn't get distracted by things like a cell phone, nor does it get road rage. The biggest question is whether that computer's judgement is up-to-snuff. Of course, one might ask the same question about many human drivers too.

Personally, I think I would find it more stressful to "supervise" FSD all the time than to just do the driving myself while letting the car supervise me and warn me of anything I might be missing.

This is why I like all the ADAS stuff in my 2019 A7. Front and rear corner radar can "see" further ahead/behind the vehicle than I can, for example, and can warn me of things around obstacles that are still obstructing my personal view.

If FSD actually was real, reliable, anywhere use FSD it would be wonderful but in it's current state sleeping behind the wheel endangers everyone.

Although Karen has some serious issues, she is actually probaly right about what caused the power outage. My friend is a sparky and installs chargers and with a lot of UK new build homes like those in the clip, the power nodes are overloaded, no one thought about a sudden influx of EV's AND still they are being built like this.

This initial NHTSA report raises more questions than it answers IMO. There are many questions yet to be answered including was this a scheme to obtain some Jackpot Justice from Tesla or an insurance company? How did the accelerator pedal end up @ WOT? Does the driver have a history of health or financial issues that may have caused this incident? How can leaning over to adjust the radio cause a person to pass out?

In Australia the issue is often the reverse with so many homes exporting power at midday the local network is overloaded with to much current and cant export it to the wider network fast enough. This is why the maximum size of a solar panel installation is limited to 6.6kw without special application.

We are having our work vans swapped from ICE to electric. Thing is, my area is a 70 mile radius from our depot. The vans they are providing us have a full-charge range of 120 miles. All well and good if I was based in Milton Keynes (a very urban 'newtown' in southern England) where they did their 'feasibility study' and EV chargers are around every corner; but those who know England, I have the beautiful Northumberland Coast. The only chargers are at Beal, possibly Alnwick, but they are always rammed with tourists.

'Go-Live' is very soon so we'll see how that pans out. I wonder how the AA (breakdown people) will handle it. They normally carry a couple of gallons of petrol and diesel on their vehicles, I wonder if they're now carrying a little Honda generator?
