1 Fault Found:
16434 - Charge Pressure Control Actuator
P334B 00 [11101000] - Mechanical Malfunction MIL ON - Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear

I would guess that the Control Actuator is lazy or stiff - You need to test it and know how it has failed.

I was kinda suspecting the mechanical side more than the electrical, this skoda is really very tidy for its age, I don't get the sense that much of any of it is particularly worn. Would you know if it can be operated from vcds to be able to establish where the fault is likely to be?

Not a bad shout - The DTC
16434 - Charge Pressure Control Actuator P334B 00 [11101000] - Mechanical Malfunction
Is shouting from the rooftops that it could be a Mechanical Malfunction !!!

Would you know if it can be operated from vcds
Look in output tests

They are dogshit - Very common failure !

Is it Electric or Vacuum operated ? Is the feedback sensor internal or ?

Engine speed: 470.00 /min

That fault is set at cranking before the engine has properly fired up !!

It has what looks to be a motor drive with an electical harness, not seen any vac tubes but thought I'd read it used both? I looked in output tests and tried the 'exhaust bypass' as it was the only possibly likely candidate, the rest in the dropdown list were fuel or fans but it returned a command refused notice. (words to that effect)

I am no expert on why VCDS refused your wishes.

One way or another you will need to make it operate and measure both the feedback signal and the current required to operate the component.

Just looked back thru a few previous scans and looks to be triggered under 600rpm but pretty sure I've had it throw a code at highway speeds

Not all use both but some do - Establish what you have first.

The good thing with that is that the fault can be replicated in the workshop - Hence easy to fix.

Looks like I was being a noob, found a helpful video says I was pressing the wrong buttons. Will try again on the morrow and report any findings. I'm very much feeling a little tappy tap tap on the wastegate lever is what is called for, I suspect my driving style might not provoke it into moving very often.

Also, while those might look like fault at cranking rpm, they are all actually on the move, just at very low speed, I'm not used to stop start engine management and have noticed my habit of slipping into nuetral while barely coasting in traffic seems to upset the computer.

Shot a few seconds of video of the actuator rod looking to be doing actuation things, cleared the code and it has not reset yet. Any of you good people wanna cast an experienced eye over the vid and see if it looks actuatory enough to you (it certainly looks ok to me)

That video adds no value

We have no idea if that component is bolloxed or it is just not commanded correctly ??

A video cannot tell you that hence Good Garages and Master Technicians dont walk around with cameras !!

My endoscope doesn't record sound but the actuator rod appeared to be responding appropriately to sufficient revs and quick let offs, it seems to be the electrical unit, no sign of vacuum and it's general appearance was as new as is most of the car despite being high milage. Looking at those snapshots, I'm thinking it is my drivi9ng style triggering them;
Engine speed: 540.00 /min<br> Normed load value: 13.3 %<br> Vehicle speed: 2 km/h
Engine speed: 560.00 /min<br> Normed load value: 14.9 %<br> Vehicle speed: 5 km/h
Engine speed: 470.00 /min<br> Normed load value: 12.9 %<br> Vehicle speed: 5 km/h
I am in the habit of knocking cars into neutral just as I'm coming to a stop, I've got dodgy knees and holding the clutch on the floor can be damned painful at times so I habitually avoid it. Looking at those above numbers and the evident actuator, actuating and not throwing any new codes stood running, I'm thinking this might be a me thing and the computer just hates my driving!

They are dogshit - Very common failure !

Is it Electric or Vacuum operated ? Is the feedback sensor internal or ?
You were (of course) completely correct sir, the actuator was nfg, finally fully shat the bed a few weeks later, the servo or internal gears were partially seized, replaced with a OEM part for a reasonable cost, thanks and sorry if I frustrate you on occassion.

Freeze frame data had it all.

Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for lower stop: 2645.2 mV

That's mid-scale for a standard position reference voltage.

5v signal then? Is that a kinda baseline for a lot of the modules or are there a mix of signal voltages? I've done loads of digital control systems but always designed and built myself, never had cause to deal with this many ecu controlled modules.

Points ignition and drum brakes anyone?

No?

Just me then! :)
