Hi all,

I'm about to embark on a conversion of my 2011 Audi A1 1.6tdi PQ25 to a CR170 engine (CBBB 2.0 TDI) which is fitted on PQ35 vehicles.

The CAYC engine is installed on many Audi vehicles with the MK60EC1. But the CBBB engine was not sold on the Audi A1 8X platform which also uses the MK60EC1.


The engine is almost a 1:1 plug and play, but the reason I'm posting here is due to the ECU.

CAYC 1.6 TDI uses EDC17C44 (available on both PQ25/PQ35)
CBBB 2.0 TDI uses EDC17CP14 (not on PQ25)
CFHZ 2.0 TDI available on PQ25 almost identical to the CBBB

Been inspired by the Polo 6R retrofit and conversions I've seen others do particularly iichel!

I believe the PT CAN packaging carries different CAN ID's for the majority of content on the PQ35 ECU so I can't just use this and work around the immobiliser. Of concern is having a functional ABS + Cluster.

Correction my car uses a Continental PCR2.1, but in the 2014 facelift it did move to EDC17C64

Yes I corrected this in post #2.
When using the CBBB engine, I will use the CFHD engine’s ECU (PN: 03L906018HS) since with was sold on the 8X platform

The CBBB is said to be 100% identical including sharing the exact same fuel injectors too aside from turbo charger size, so hopefully my tuner can accommodate for this alteration with a stage 1 tune.

Sooner after I shall be DQ250 converting from the older EA189 series vehicles.

A HEX-V2 that was never registered can still be registered. ;)

Oh yeah that's a nice retrofit with the dq250. Did that one myself

Yeah, it's one of the main motivators aside from getting away from the 1.6 TDI Continental injectors.

Update: I've collected the CBBB engine with turbo and airbox complete with a DQ250 gearbox (LQT) code, it's one heavy unit.
I've been working on EKTA checking the engine mount to source for the driver side, gearbox bracket I'll fabricate.

You're gonna love that, I made 5 or 6 mounts before I finally cleared the brake booster, airbox, chassis etc.

I've got some more confidence the PQ35 and PQ25 share the same Powertrain CAN signals (fingers crossed).

Going to be using the ECU from an A3 03L 906 022 DT (EDC17CP14) with immo data carried over

Wish there was some website where we could see the external dimensions of parts, I'm sure there has to be one drive shaft set which should fit for the DQ250 without having to have some welded, and maybe also chuck in some driveshaft spacers...

Using it does not equal registering it.

Just register the box for free is my understanding of things ...

The Jetta PQ25 and Beetle PQ25 might be PQ25 in electrics, but the front axle is definetley 1K0 and so is the engine bay. So don't use the brackets for your A1 with a Polo front axle.

I was thinking to look at the Ibiza 6MT driveshafts to see if they’re any different in length vs the 5 speed axles. If the difference ends up being small like 25mm I will look into driveshaft spacers or even changing the cup (I’ve swapped the cup on a DQ200 for similar experiments).

I have been looking at your helpful measurements between 5MT + DQ250

just make sure you don't overstress those drive shaft joints, ask me how i know lol
Hope you’re only referring to mechanical fitment 🤣

Since my realistic anticipation is 230Hp/420Nm
