2010 Audi S5 Cabrio with a 0B5 transmission, the mechatronics unit was replaced by some shop. As one might expect in this case, the engine runs fine, but the transmission won't take any gear and move under its own power. So the vehilce is towed to one "Mr.B". So standard mecha unit replaced, trans locked... no bid deal, Mr.B has full ODIS and knows how to use it, this should of been a simple task.
When I talked to Mr.B over the phone he was asking me if I knew of any issues with ODIS. Lulz.... but none specific to this. When he was trying match the mecha to the car and fail, it would give an vague message about an "invalid key" and was wondering what that meant. Car fires up just fine, no immobilizer codes so I'm thinking maybe the "key" is some sort of security verification with ODIS or something and that is where we left the call.
Following day, Mr.B notices something about the actual key:
It doesn't have any Audi logo on there... that is an aftermarket key. Contacts the owner of the vehicle and gets a factory original key from them:
With the factory key used in the car, ODIS was able to unlock the mecha unit without issue. So while the aftermarket key functioned as one would expect a key to function, it became an issue when the mecha unit was replaced. This is the first time we've come across tihs kind of issue.
