Hi all,
I recently acquired a 2008 Golf Plus 1.9 TDI, and I've had it for about two weeks now. During this time, I’ve experienced two instances where the car has cut out completely and refused to restart immediately.
On the first occasion, I thought the fuel gauge might be faulty, so I added more diesel. After a minute or so of cranking, the engine started, but it ran with noticeable hesitation and a slight misfire, especially when accelerating in 3rd and 4th gears under load. Since then, I’ve driven around 250 miles, and while the hesitation persists, it only occurs during acceleration or heavier load.
Tonight, after a 60-mile drive home at light throttle, the car ran perfectly. However, when I made a quick stop and then tried to restart, the car cut out again. This time, it took about a minute of cranking before it started again, and I was able to drive home with no issues. The car idles fine and usually starts on the first attempt, although it has occasionally needed a second try since I got it.
I’ve already changed the fuel filter, but it didn’t seem to affect the hesitation. I also performed an auto-scan, and I’ve attached the results below.
Has anyone encountered similar issues or have any advice on how to dig deeper? I’m wondering if it could be related to a specific part or system that might need attention. The car has been regularly serviced and is in excellent condition, with 87,000 miles on the clock.
