So, i couldn't resist. after fixing 2 New Beetles using my VCDS, i had to fix another one. Am addicted.
I wasn't looking for another NB, was looking to get a Audi or VW passat/jetta. but then this NB showed up in my search results. (That is a VW/audi newer then year 2000, under 200,000km and under $2000.)
found this: 2002 VW NB 2.0L 5-speed. sunroof, foglights, heated cloth seats, few small scratches in the paint, they had 3M gaurd put on the hood, bumpers, fenders. 183000kms for $1800.
phone the guy and the story goes like this, they had the car since 2007, had a few issues with it last year, the airbag light started blinking on for a while then goes out, dealer said don't worry about it they check and everythings is working fine. So, that worried him a bit. Last month , the wife went shopping and after the car wouldn't start. They ended up getting it towed home. the car when boosted would run for 5 secs then shut off. So he would get up his driveway a bit, then have to boost it again until he got it parked in the garage. they replaced the battery, same issue, start and shut off. replaced the alternator, same issue starts then stops. So it sat in the garage for for a month. they are selling the house and wanted it gone.
"Well,it sounds serious, would you take $1400 cash? i can be there tomorrow morning!"
The car is in my drive way.
Now the fun starts.
i did a auto-scan at the guys house, we had to hook up booster cables to his other car, the battery was dead from his kids playing in the garage and leaving the car doors open. i had to know what the auto scan said......
WOW... do i have a mess here!
but i have a smile all the way home
, all codes were "Intermittent"
Got home, unloaded the car. Installed a charge battery i had in my shed.
hooked up VCDS cleared all the codes.
turned ignition off for 30 sec, turn key to "on" , started VCDS, did another auto scan before running engine.

started car, stayed running, no lights flashing at me!!! is this a case of "if its to good to be true....?" my thoughts are they may have had a issue with the battery or alternator, but they never cleared the codes after replacing with new parts. thus still having the same issues. any other thoughts?
i looked at the MVB for coolant temp, it was registering a temp. I didn't let the car warm up fully, encase maybe the car is out of coolant.
Before you say anything.....YES.... the radio is not working, i haven't gone through the fuses yet. will do a good looking over tomorrow. check fluid, fuses, brakes, looks like some goo on the fuse box above the battery. have to investigate to see if it has been overheating.
thanks for reading. if any issues surface i will update.
