VW Amarok - Instrument/CAN Errors

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to diagnose these errors?

• Instruments: U112100 - Databus missing
• CAN Gateway: 03158 - Information electronics control module 1: No signal

I have tried looking around VW forums and some posts allude to users with aftermarket head units, but no solid answers (I have a Pioneer head unit with Maestro in mine).

If you install 3rd party components that do not behave like factory equipped systems but do require CAN access, there is little you can do about these codes. Live with them or go back to a factory infotainment system.

But how do I know definitively that it is caused by 3rd party components and not another fault i.e. can I single out/identify what the effected modules are?

The iDatalink Maestro is designed to integrate head units to the factory CANbus, so I am not expecting it to cause errors.

Go back to the factory configuration, see if the codes remain or not. That said, unless you have actual functional discrepancies I'd suggest you file this under "3rd party hardware incompatibility".

Is there any way to disable checking of the CAN module at fault, or force a healthy signal using VCDS?

Good point, but I doubt that will completely get rid of all related faults. I've never seen a modern VAG car with an aftermarket radio that doesn't have at least one or two faults due to the aftermarket radio not doing all the things a factory radio does.

I'm fairly certain that on this Amarok, the kombi complains only because of missing telephony functionality via CAN. The telephone capability can be coded off the kombi. (check module 17, long coding, go byte by byte and find those bits that are relevant to the built-in telephone)

Once this is done, along with the gateway installation list update (radio control unit removal), the scan should be pristine.
